1983 Virgin Prunes Gig Details

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Likewise :notworthy: - this has been a great thread.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

because he says 'Ace Brixton tonight, 16th Hastings, 24th Liverpool, 25th Golden Eagle Birmingham, 26th Franks Lancishire, 27th Gallery Manchester, 1st Glasgow, 6th Lyceum London, 7th Leeds
Seems slightly illogical to me. If Kid Jenson was recorded on 6th, then why would "tonight" not also be 6th ...?
spiggymr7 wrote:Yes ,Sisters played the 10.03.83 at The Brixton ace , i have 2 press cuttings for this date ,I will post soon .
OK. That sounds like prove.

Anyway, how about 30 March? It's not mentioned at all ...

Because the Sisters pre-recorded their songs in a little BBC recording studio on the 6th, then Jensen played them on his radio show on the 10th.

Wiki says it was repeated on March 11. Jensen didn't even have a show on March 11.

EDIT: Ah I see what's happened. Repeat was on 11th April 1983, and a 3rd repeat (on the Janice Long Show) on 20th Jan 1987.

One example for my entire lack of knowledge - I've never even heard of any Janice Long Show ... ... so if there were some link, that were good ...

First - I think a good part of this thread has derailed in the direction of "1983 Gigs Discussion" and might perhaps be split from "Latest Sisters Purchase" ... ...

Second - the Colne gig... @spiggymr7
I wonder how comes that on Richard's membership card/ticket there is noted "Crew".
Could it be he ordered his ticket in advance over the band? Or maybe he even had free entry due to receiving a "crew ticket" ... :?: ...
That would, IMHO, even more explain why this pass was issued on 14/3/83 for the gig on 26/3

There;s no recording available as far as I'm aware.

I'd guess it's partly a misdating of the 4th May gig except the setlist doesn't match.
Thank you for the hint! ... :) ...

1983 is filling up nicely, @Being, well done. :notworthy:
For the Golden Eagle (Birmingham) on 25th March 1983, a Songkick user who claims to have been there says that the support band was called Step Forward, although. I have not been able to find any other reference to a band of that name. Someone else claims to have been to the gig on this Forum : http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... got+famous.
There's also a nice article on the venue here : http://nonsequitur.freeforums.org/downl ... &mode=view.
I'm sure one of the ticket collectors here will have a stub from this gig. There are pics of various other tickets from that era on the web and they all have a similar design to this one : Image

Have sent "John" a message asking if he has any memories of the gig. As he posted two years ago it's a long shot but hey he seems like a nice guy so hopefully he can confirm some details.

Sorry for not contributing to this. As you may already know, I saw the Sisters at one of their other VP support gigs in 1983 - at the Camden Electric Ballroom. The Sisters played two gigs that night. It was about the first time I'd heard Reptile House songs live, but I think I may also seen them live at retford Porterhouse that year too - not that I recall too much about that particular one

Are there any gaps I can help with?

@bearskin

Nice to see a guy who saw this gig , I really envy you to have seen this Electric Ballroom gig. :)
This weekend I'll do a topic on both 2 gigs of this night with various informations, it will remind you the good days .

Regarding the Electric Ballroom, lot of people knew the date because it was announced, a press reporter of "The Sounds" was there and at least 5 tapers had registered that gig.
But for the second gig in Camden, there was just one taper (to my knowledge) while the concert was very close at 5 minutes walk.
For me, few people knew the second concert .
So i would like to ask a question:
Did someone tell at the Electric Ballroom, that there was a second concert in Camden Palace? you knew for the Camden Palace gig?

For Retford Porterhouse 12/02/83 there was very little information (just a cutting announcing the date) and also a guy tell me the following:
"One gig I do remember really well was at Retford Porterhouse in February 1983. It was a small nightclub with two floors. The Sisters I think played upstairs. There were only about 30 - 40 people there, and about 10 of them (Myself included) had travelled down there from Wakefield and Leeds. The 'Locals' were not too pleased to have 'Outsiders' in their nightclub! But it was okay, they did not bother us. It was a really good gig."
