Today is the thirtieth anniversary of Gary's final performance with the band, the recording for the Old Grey Whistle Test in the BBC studios.
I've posted my own little tribute to him on my blog :

Thanks for everything, Gary !

A fitting tribute. Even though I didn't discover the band until after his departure, to me the heart and soul of the Sisters will always be Von, Gary and Craig.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
The thread title led us all to believe you'd finally found that, ahem, film he'd appeared in.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.
I gave the OGWT tracks a bit of a blast earlier.
Saw the gig the night before so it was a bit odd to see Gary so still on the telly.
Oh I do wish the beeb would re-broadcast that.
Nice blog post

a) a lengthy discussion of the relative merits of needle-drop vs master reel
b) a TSOM song title punfest
I can see which way this one is going ...

This is a really great tribute Nikolas, well done ! And I fully agree that Gary deserves more credits than he got so far. He was the silent force next to Andrew. Such a shame he left the band in 85.

well done Nik. lest we forget...
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

... ... Lovely, Nik ... ... and I fully agree - without Gary, no Sisters and Heaven knows what would have become of Andrew instead ... ...Nikolas Vitus Lagartija wrote:Today is the thirtieth anniversary of Gary's final performance with the band, the recording for the Old Grey Whistle Test in the BBC studios.

Maybe, you've already guessed that I have ...
I did consider going straight to b), but decided to wait and see what everyone else did first.Nikolas Vitus Lagartija wrote:Most recent threads have degenerated into either :stufarq wrote:The thread title led us all to believe you'd finally found that, ahem, film he'd appeared in.

Nice work, Nik. OGWT deserves to be remembered (this version of Marian blows the album one straigth out of the water!), but Gary Marx even deserves it a gazillion times more... Best Sister ever? Best Sister ever.

Thanks to all for the positive comments and to @Being for the links.
Glad to see that Gary is still held in appropriately high regard.

While I have loved every incarnation of the band, to me the greatest incarnation is Gary, Craig & Benn. But without Mr Marx - there is nothing.
I personally admire that Eldritch has - so far anyway - The Sisters have never drifted backwards into the nostalgia market of classic album tours or original line-ups BUT I'd love to see Gary & Von together again. Even just for a one off encore rip through Alice, Anaconda etc.
A couple of years ago, there was speculation around these parts that Gary was working with Craig and Wayne. Does anyone know if anything became of that or was it just rumours...

Great Nikolas !!!!
Always a great pleasure to read post on the nice NVL blog.
Yes Gary do so much onto the Sisters , a master piece of the band.
I take advantage of this post to call in mind the last Gary gig playing with the Sisters at the Brighton Top Rank the 01.04.85, the day before the Whistle Test .
Here's a part of the ticket (Thanks to Bruno Bossier )
And a pic of this last Gary's gig i get from Simon Wh... He tell that on his message...
"Pics taken by a friend ...Brighton Gig on the First and Last and Always tour...Gary Marx last gig... an
emotional night out... one of the picures contains me and the nutters pyramid building during Emma... "
This is my little tribute for Gary last days with The Sisters .

Anybody have a link to Gary's last gig April 1st, 1985 at Top Rank, Brighton?
Would Love to listen to this.
BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test, April 2nd, 1985 would be an added bonus!
