Guitar on backing track after Marx left in 85.

I recently posted on my blog (http://sistersfan.blogspot.co.uk) about the first post-Gary Marx gig in 1985 (Ghent, 12th April, which I was lucky enough to attend), and in ensuing FB discussion about the exact chronology of Marx's departure, @Joy posted a copy for the Record Collector article which claimed that the band used a backing tape to replace Marx at the RAH.
Can anyone shed any light on this, and on any other gigs where this was the case ?

Going from the sound of the bootlegs I've listened to, the gigs where they played as a three certainly don't sound as though there's another guitar (even on a backing tape).

Certainly on Wake it seems to me that there's no replacement for Gary, tape or otherwise; the sound has always sounded a bit thin to me with only Wayne's guitar.

I thought Gary Marx was supposed to show up at the RAH, thus no provision would be made for any backing tape? And yeah, Hussey's guitar does sound a little sparse on Wake and the gigs leading up to the RAH, despite his best efforts.

There's definitely no backing track at RAH or any other '85 gig I've heard; instead, Adams plays some of Marx's lines.

The arrangements for Marx's songs were stripped down a lot without a second guitar.

I don't think The Sisters have ever used pre-recorded backing, except on TV?

This confirms my own view but I was reluctant to assume that Record Collector had got it wrong.

Inded, but the young men have learned a lot to make it work as a three piece. Kohd is simply an incredible work of passion and art, and used to be really weak before. Also train as a three piece is fantastic, and far ahead of before.

It would have been great to combine it with gary afterwards

This may be viewed as sacrilege on here...... but those April/May/June 1985 three piece boots, are some of my favorite's.

Am not his greatest fan but I have to admit that WH did a great job in the circumstances in 85, even if the sound is inevitably a little thin on some songs.
I think that nowadays most of us would prefer one guitar and live bass to two guitars and pre-recorded bass.

For myself, I would prefer a lot to have a live bassist, but probably not if it meant losing a guitarist.

I agree, whilst a fan of the GM/BG days, you have to admit that WH well earned his spurs in those few months.

The poncho was a bit naff though, as he was told at the time lol.

there's clearly no live 2nd guitar -backing tape or otherwise- after gary marx left. wayne traded up to a 12-string to add depth and range to the first guitar parts and the songs were arranged with craig's bass incorporating essential 2nd guitar lines where necesssary. compare two quality boots eg newcastle tiffanys to wake or darks in milan etc.

quite right. its not even a fair trade -i loved the beefed up sound the cramps had on record when they brought in a bass, but live you could "hear" the lack of 2nd guitar which the bass couldnt compensate for.
anyway, i would hate to lose either of our young axe-heroes; and even if the coffers dont stretch to a paid member my offer of playing live bass still stands for the small fee of food/travel expenses and all my drugs paid for.

In the vague recesses of my memory I remember talk of a gold This Corrosion. I think there is a thread somewhere with mention of it. Maybe somebody with better search skills than me can find it.
