Well in that case...EmmaPeelWannaBe wrote:If we change the title to "What would you take if Von offered you one thing from his basement?" can we go back to being frivolous?
From what I understand, the tapes do actually exist... but don't have any vocals on them. won't lay any vocal tracks down because he's terrified of demo stuff leaking onto the interwebs.sultan2075 wrote:Master tapes of the next three records... which surely must exist since they record all the time. Right?

I stand corrected.
Like I said, "From what I understand" - I may well have misunderstood
But with vocals or without, the tapes are what I'd take.

Interesting turn this thread took...
But IF there are complete tracks (aside from those we've heard up until Arms) recorded, why not play ANY one of them live, it's not like they are going to release them in the future anyway?

Seconded in a way - the so called new songs have also developed live to full blossom over years ... ...euphoria wrote:Interesting turn this thread took...

But then again, I can already hear the flood of complaints about unfinished, half-cooked tracks presented to a hard working fanbase and stuff ... ...

Yeah this is the thing isn't it? A lot of people will complain no matter what, so in a lot of ways I can understand why Eldritch doesn't want to release any of it...

I thought they played very little of the "new" stuff these days because it doesnt go down too well.
The punters prefer to wallow in what they know.
They are a nostalgia act after all.

....or it could be that some has broken in to the basement and stolen all the backing tapes to the "new" songs.

I can speak for myself, but I love almost all new-old songs (Susanne, WoD, Romeo, Summer, WID, C&B), so I'd love to hear new-old or new-new songs; unlike new-new songs, mediocre Still and stolen guitar in Arms (but lyrics are, as always, good). So bring it on.Being645 wrote:But then again, I can already hear the flood of complaints about unfinished, half-cooked tracks presented to a hard working fanbase and stuff ... ...
I think that there's not much new-new songs in setlist, because in some way AE still wants to keep quality level. They tried with Still, it's not good as live song, so it's dropped out, Arms, even with stolen guitar, sounds good, works good live so it's still in.
And I'm way too young to nostalgia act. But I'm not easy to please with anything that has 'new' stick on it (maybe because TSOM/AE are/is known from quality).

I'm afraid you're circling in on the truth here, Bartek, and it almost feels like an uncomfortable topic, as both Ben and Chris are very nice persons, easy to get along with, not the least arrogant, always up for a chat with us fans - and yet they most likely cannot match Adam as a songwriter. If Still and Arms are the best they can do (in the eyes of Von), then there might very well be a quality control in action from Andrew. I can enjoy Arms, but it's certainly no Summer or Crash&Burn, and I don't know if the boys would be able to write such songs. Maybe they can, but I'm not convinced based upon how NxN and EM sound. This might be accusing the boys unfairly, but IF they would write a tune on par with C&B (maybe the music to Far Parade?), then why wouldn't Andrew want to play it live?Bartek wrote: I think that there's not much new-new songs in setlist, because in some way AE still wants to keep quality level. Edit: Plus I should of course also mention the potential writer's block/indifference of Andrew. Possibly more important than what I wrote above.
If I'm right, then I'm waiting for songs written by AE himself. WoD, Come together are great songs.
And I think that Far Parade gonna be only his song (if we ever hear that song; and if it's not his goodbye song). Judging by lyrics-rythm structure, it's not gonne be as easy to play; kinda mix of UTG and WoD (which is very good for me).

How did this thread get from a bit of harmless fun to more theorizing about why there's no new LP? Yeah, I'm p-ssed off about it too, but that's not gonna stop me enjoying what we do have (which is a good deal more than the way things coulda gone).
Back on topic: I wonder if he still has the infamous drum kit down there?

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
No complaints about lack of new LP from my side. Just theorizing why there's no new live songs, after theorizing if/that there's finished new songs on laptop(s).
If this basement's as great as everyone's making it out to be, I'll have the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Lord Lucan and the lost Ark of the Covenant.
Oh, and my car keys.
Oh, and my car keys.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

Nowadays, not always. My first car came with a separate key for the rear flap ... ...stufarq wrote:Come to think of it, why do we always say "car keys" plural? Don't cars only have one key?

wonder if 's muse is on the laptop?Bartek wrote:No complaints about lack of new LP from my side. Just theorizing why there's no new live songs, after theorizing if/that there's finished new songs on laptop(s).
And why is i much prefer the idea of the lack of new songs being due to some mysterious Von reason that to writer's block?
Probalby because during last 25 years we heard/listened only 3 (?) new songs written whole by himself.
I don't know what happened to Stanley The Stick but Patricia sold the white suit on eBay a few years ago. I wonder where it ended up? Anyone know who bought it? It'd look seriously cool (or seriously silly??) on someone's trade list with "megarare, not for trade" listed alongside it.iesus wrote:The white suit from Dominion with the stick
