WINDOWS 10 - DUMB QUESTION TIME

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Apologies in advance, I know chuff all about things computerical.

At the moment I have Windows 7 and Microcrosoft Office from 2007.

If and when I move over to Windows 10 will my antiquated Excel and Word be compatible??

Or will I have to buy a new Microsoft Office??

Any knowledge greatly appreciated.

We upgraded on or laptop. Then changed back to 7. Awful, just awful.

I have a now antiquated PC that ran like a dog with win 7 but now runs marginally faster with win 10 and I'm still rocking Office 2000.

IIRC the old office suite stuff should be compatible. I remember at work when they changed to 7, XP stuff was openable. It did p!ss people off when you sent them stuff in the 7format though :twisted:
So, in short, should be okay.
It's the other way round that proves a problem.

The old Office stuff was certainly compatible with Windows 8, so perhaps will be with 10. But a lot of third party software wasn't compatible with 8, eg my printer's useless now.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

Thanks people awfully good of you to take the time and effort.

This is all a complete mystery to me, I get confused listening to "Computer World".

One last question if I may and then I'll shut up.

If I bought a new computer that had 8.1 on it then would it be OK to transfer my 2007 Microsoft Office?

Should be okay (as long as you have the license).
I think ever since win 2003 everything's been backwards compatible.
But like Stu said, third party stuff might be knacked, however some companies will issue updates to bring them in line.
Also, IIRC Microsoft has a compatibility page where you can double check :)
