Looking for something new to listen to

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Hey folks,

I don't generally post much these days apart from my vids thread. I currently only have 2 gigs left to do this year and not a single gig booked for next year.

I am struggling to find much I really want to listen to these days. I just keep playing stuff I have had for ages or a few recent discoveries.

So... Can you help me out !!! Who is worth listening to?

Background so you can help me out with some advice.

New discoveries for me that I am liking
Slaves
Smith Street Band
Great Cynics

Old stuff I like (will try to show my diversity in the list)
Frank Turner
Nick Cave
PIL
The Cure
Sisters of Mercy
The m*****n
Placebo
Interpol
Less Than Jake
Anti Flag
Dave Hause
Sex Pistols
The Clash
Lots of others as you can see from my vids list

Old stuff I don't like
Most metal tbh
Foo Fighters and all the similar stuff
Royal Blood
autotune :)
Most chart pop :)

Thanks in advance folks[/b]

On the basis that I am digging this little lot I would recommend the following

Bokka
The Duke Spirit
Nadine Shah
Fews
Wolf Alice
Pins

Have a snuffle around on yoochoob & snoudcloud & you should find some choice stuff from them before you opt to shell out for anything :)
Cheers.

Or try the Currently listening to... thread on HL. I've picked up some new music ideas from there.

I was in the same boat, until I came across this list yesterday, started listening to some stuff on there and thought "hmm, actually you know of this stuff isn't half bad." Got tuned into The Ting Tings, Long Blondes, Muse, a few other bands. Was really ready not to like Adele, but she has a fantastic voice and some serious singing chops. KT Tunstall was a big surprise, not expecting that, I will need to hear more. Ladytron and Late Night Alumni are on my Travelling Playlist - Ladytron's Witching Hour and Gravity the Seducer albums are spectacular.

You might like Mclusky's Lightsabrecocksuckingblues, or The Datsuns' MF From Hell, or The White Stripes' Fell In Love With A Girl - and if you don't like the music the videos are worth watching :)

The Naked And Famous is one of my recent faves. Both their albums are great. I don't see how any 80s kid could not like them.

Otherwise, I don't think anyone can touch what M Gira has been doing with Swans. "To Be Kind" is epic in a way no one else working in pop or rock music can come close to, imho.

you could try:
Protafield (aka jayce lewis).
ladytron - although they havent had anything for a while.
i speak machine - for something a little different (on soundcloud)
Grimes - shes quite talented
Gary Numan's last album was quite splendid - but i am biased.
first aid kit - soothing i find
i am more likely to release an album before the sisters

Shearwater have a new, kinda synth-y/new-wave-y album coming out in January.

Older Porcupine Tree stuff?

I rather like Alice Russell, she does soul, if you're into that.

(I was gonna suggest Crippled Black Phoenix but they're a bit metal.)[/url]
