"Afterhours" and others on CD?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. I'm sure this has been discussed before, (I just found this BB),
when will older tracks like...

Body and Soul
Train
Body Electric
Afterhours
Poison door
Bury me Deep
etc

....be released on cd? Or will they ever? I think it's kind of rediculous that some bands have every b-side, remix, demo out on cd, but these GREAT tunes are still not available. Why??

Body & Soul is on A slight case of overbombing.

Body Electric (1982) is on Some Girls Wander...

As for the rest of them, there is a pretty decent bootleg CD called Some Boys Wander By Mistake out there (fairly easy to get hold of) wich contains them all (including one of the worlds greatest instrumental tunes ever, Untitled).

The current East West situation means they may probably never be. Pity really, it's a very strong set of songs, 1984 has always been one of the best Sisters eras, when there was a definite sense of something exciting happening.

Oh, and that bootleg should have been called "Into The Mess That Scalpels Make". Pity about Emma fading in on it too.

Well as far as Some Boys goes, I've seen an heard it before, and the sound is not very good. I actually put all my vinyl stuff on cd using software to clean it up a bit and it sounds a lot better than the Some Boys stuff. I just wanted to know if the stuff was ever going to pe properly remastered and put on cd. Thanks though.

Very glad I found this board also, I will be by often.

There are 2 versions, a red (I think) cover with poor sound and a white cover with very good sound. But I agree on the "copy your own to CD" policy, I did the same and it turned out wonderful.

Well then, from a man that's been living under a rock the last couple of years; what kind of software do I need to put vinyl on cd? And just how tricky is it? Sounds very interesting.

I use Goldwave, it's a free download (just do a search for Goldwave), and while I'm sure there's better it's what I'm used to so I'm happy enough to continue with it. Then get a 2 phono to 1 5mm jack lead and connect the lineout from your hi fi to your PC. It's a lot easier if you have a domestic CD recorder thing, but going via PC first at least means you can balance the volume levels properly and chop out the lead in/lead out bits before burning.

One argument which was made a few years back on dominion was that the band did not want to release three retro alums in succession., with Some Grils and Overbombing being the first two. Granted, this was about six years ago, so things may change. After all, Overbombing was realeased nearly 11 years ago. That still does not resolve the problem whether the ones with the rights to the songs want to release them. [see above]

I do share your sentiment that a release of such tracks would be nice. I just hope that it would be done as well as Some Girls. Include everythiing from the period (i.e Train and Long Train, Emma, even single versions of album tracks, if different). [Hm, we probably could fill an entire CD with versions of This Corrosion... :roll: , so mayby limit it to non-album tracks.]

I wish that Overbombing had never come out. "Best of" albums can be like a kiss of death. Is nothing more of quality going to be released? Has a group reached its pinnacle and all else will be downhill from there? Such feelings are not based particularly on Overbombing, even if they sound as if they are.

Most of the time GH collections are there to fulfill contractual obligations (the Mish did this with Sum & Substance). Still, these things are good for people who have a fleeting interest in the band (got the Siouxie one there last year which is quite nice).

Indeed. I know quite a few people who aren't really into the Sisters in a big way but own the Overbombing CD 'cause they liked some of the hit singles (Corrosion, Temple, Dominion, Lucretia etc.)

Ahhh, the tracklisting. I think a lot of the alternate version ground is covered well enough by Overbombing, so there's really no particular need to go down that route. Ideally for me would be:

Body And Soul
Body Electric [84]
Train
Afterhours
Walk Away (Included for completeness)
Poison Door
On The Wire
Long Train
No Time To Cry [7" Edit]
Blood Money
Bury Me Deep
Untitled
Sandstorm
Emma
You Could Be The One

This covers all of the post-SGWBM B-side tracks I would consider "essential". I don't see any particular need to include Alice [93] or the many remixes, and perhaps any remaining space on the CD could be filled with live tracks, say stuff off Wake?

Of course, this is all pie in the sky talk, but I have to be allowed cling to my hopes.

You're right - never seen it on anything aside from the Body 'n' Soul 12er. 'Tis a sad 'n' sorry day indeed when even bootleggers are witholding quality stuff from us.

You can pick up the Body And Soul 12" on Ebay quite regularly for about 4 quid.

maybe, when they made ASCOOB..they also had a second edition in thoughts..since it's called "greatest hits VOLUME1"
but before anything like that happens...all up to AE...

as for those mindblowing tracks you all just mentioned..i made a "bootleg" of my own for a friend of mine..composed of all the singles i have and put some peel sessions on it, early studio recordings like those on the floorshow EP and whistle test studios etc...,some promo versions (like a verry long version of Corrosion...
didn't have to do a lot about quality since i have a good installation and my records are all in perfect condition...(sometimes better than cd versions)

but hey..think we're all waiting for something to happen..official or bootleg..
i don't sleep, so i don't dream, so i don't wake up frightened...
everything is what it seems, if you look hard enough tonight and see...
