The band was actually from Leamington Spa, as we were all at Warwick University at the time, but because our first two releases were produced by Pete Kember (Sonic Boom) from Spacemen 3 (and he lives in Rugby), we were lumped in with the then "Rugby Scene", which included Spacemen 3 and Darkside - there were others but I don't recall.

Ahem.
A few of us on here are massive Spacemen fans, and while I can't speak for the others, I am now personally in total awe.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Ah. I see. I'm from Leamington. Should have been more into the Leam scene shouldn't I?slicepack wrote:The band was actually from Leamington Spa, as we were all at Warwick University at the time, but because our first two releases were produced by Pete Kember (Sonic Boom) from Spacemen 3 (and he lives in Rugby), we were lumped in with the then "Rugby Scene", which included Spacemen 3 and Darkside - there were others but I don't recall.

The record company wanted Sonic Boom to produce, and as we were big fans it was great choice. In retrospect, I guess we were responsible for dragging Pete out of retirement - 'Recurring' had just come out and S3 had recently split. Because we were recording at VHF Studios in Coventry, we persuaded Pete to play Coventry Poly with us supporting (Jason showed up at that gig...). He then went on to form Spectrum (with our drummer), and we were support on the first Spectrum UK tour (with our drummer therefore playing two gigs a night).

BeeP, you're a sweetheart! I'm sure a night out with these chaps would be a *blast* - but I wasn't even thinking about that angle when I asked! Damn. Am I a dolt, or what?! I was asking because I wondered if they might know my cousins...

Yeah he did. One of the first things that Huss did with the Sisters in fact. And f**k it yeah, he is a good guitarist.Dark wrote:Did he play on the rerecording of Body Electric? If yes, then I'll say how great a guitarist he was.James Blast wrote:no one says what a good guitarist he is

Actually, of the two Mish songs I've heard (Wasteland, Tower Of Strength), it sounded quite good.
Ghostie songs are good too, but I wish I'd realised Gathering Dust was all covers before I downloaded it..

tis not a covers album... I think there's 4 covers if memory serves, leaving 7 original items of loveliness for your listening pleasure.
(I'd much rather had had 4 original songs though)

I feel it's safe to say you're missing out. Try looking for their cover of Suzi Quatro's "Can The Can" or Roxy Music's "Both Ends Burning".James Blast wrote:not heard it Dark old beanDark wrote:What about the ones by Ghost Dance?
Or "Poison Door", which can be found on the Wide Receiver bootleg.
