Eldritch biography

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

So what act of the impossible do you lot think it would take to get Mr E interested in working with someone to do a biography? I'm a writer with tremendous respect for him and the band and it's rather disheartening to know that there is so little information available about either of them...of course, this seems to be what Mr E wants, so posting this is more than likely going to lead to a dead end.

What I guess I'm asking is 1.) how realistic even IS the prospect of this biography, 2.) as a fan of The Sisters of Mercy, would you be interested in reading such a thing, and 3.) where on Earth would I start in terms of contacting the "right people"?

I am genuinely interested in collaborating with him to do a biography about his experiences (if he would be so inclined)...I just have no idea where I would begin because he is very hard to get in contact with these days.

Hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. If you can help out, I would prefer to discuss things over e-mail so send me a PM and we'll talk. I've been contemplating this idea for about two years now, but for some reason this feels like the right time to post it.

I suspect the chances are somewhat less than nil. He seems like a very private man who thinks of celebrity as a joke.

I've always enjoyed his interviews and various ramblings; he's bright, thoughtful, and witty. Smarter than your average rockstar, as it were. But I doubt he'd have any interest in speaking about his private life in public any more than he has for the past thirty-odd years.

Fair enough. Seeing as Mr E is - as you put it - bright, thoughtful, and witty, I thought a biography focusing on him would make for a far more interesting read than one about your average rock star.

To me at least, it seems in recent years he's been a bit more willing to speak about himself than in the past (and I mean by a very small margin). Like I said, it felt like the right time to post this. Who knows why.

I guess the closest us fans got to Mr E would have been back in the heyday of UTR. Shame.

Great idea, more chance of platting fog though.

One does get the feeling that the information that's already out there is the sum total of what Eldritch actually wants out there (and some of it he may not even want).
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I'd also wager that quite a lot of it isn't true.

Not sure it would make a lot of sense even in financial terms. The average book (if you're lucky) doesn't sell more than a couple of thousand, if even that. So if he's not going to make an album because it's isn't worth it, a book would be even more unlikely I'd have thought. I'd read it though! ;D

I think you have more chance asking him to join the ***** Sisters dinner cruise, including entertainment.

I'm guessing that you assumed that AE would be co-author of this biography, rather than "just" object of study, true, original source of information about himself, while - correct me if i'm wrong about possibility - just someone who'll excahnge information, check if facts in book and book itself is written correctly and take some money in advance rather than share of profits.
I guess, that it would be easier to convince him into something less private than biography, like politics, culture or cook book.

Ad rem: try by management, try by people from People Republic of West Yorkshire and people form Leeds scene. Try to write to Merciful Release (caution: dead end).

Good point. I think he'd have to be otherwise there would be (though I could be wrong) no really selling-point. Omnibus press for example does a lot of 'cult' music biographies so they might be interested. But not certain :von: would be.

Omnibus is a possibility. And as for Mr E himself, that's what I'm trying to find out.
