Gideon Coe on 6music will be playing a Sisters session at some point this evening.

Is there any way of hearing 6 Music via a lossless (FM?) source?

It'd be lovely if these sessions were available in the beeb's transcription series, but they never were.
The 84 session was on dime a while back from the original FM broadcast.
Would be ace to get hold of the masters from the beeb's archive though.
Doesn't a certain be-quiffed one work for the beeb?

I have that FM share but it seems awfully boosted. A straight release from the master would be awesome.Pista wrote:Unfortunately notrobertzombie wrote:Is there any way of hearing 6 Music via a lossless (FM?) source?

Oh the session's on the iprod, but we're looking for a master/ pre broadcast copy, as Jensen's show wasn't on FM in 83. It was on AM & so the radio recordings are mushy monojost 7 wrote:Its still the same: how could one be a sisters fan without the 83 session? No answer to that
Moreover, the date for Jensen's session is a bit questionable. Jensen's show was weeknights & couldn't possibly have been on March 6th, as it was a Sunday.
The beeb must have a master in their archive.
According to the Wiki, it was recorded on the 6th and Broadcasted on the 10th and then repeated on 11th AprilPista wrote:Oh the session's on the iprod, but we're looking for a master/ pre broadcast copy, as Jensen's show wasn't on FM in 83. Thanks Si.
I did hunt, but couldn't find that page for some reason. (found it now)
Those dates would still make it an AM broadcast though.

Yeah I can confirm those dates. In the 3rd broadcast of the session (during the Janice Long Show on 20th Jan 87, and also only on AM, I don't remember when Radio 1 got an FM transmitter in the Yorkshire region but it must have been some time after that date. Shocking!) all the details were given : Recorded 6th March 83, broadcast 10th March 83, 2nd broadcast 11th April 83. The lineup was also given which revealed Eldritch played some guitar during the session.
Thought so.
Radio One only got a permanent FM frequency nationally in 1988.
Up until then they shared Radio 2's transmitter late on weeknights (hence Peel being on FM) & for a few select shows at weekends (top 40 & In Concert for example)
There is a so-called "pre-FM" (pre-broadcast) recording of the Jensen tracks on Entertainment Or Death. They seem to have come from a tape & appear to be stereo but they are certainly not masters. Probably 2nd gen at best.

Isn't the 'On The Wireless' boot supposedly direct from the masters if the sleeve info is to be believed.
Would be nice if the Sisters had the same treatment as Siouxsie did some years back with that bbc sessions & tv appearances cd/dvd box set!

Is this the place I used to know as Fatherland?
Can't find that one on the wikideadagain wrote:Isn't the 'On The Wireless' boot supposedly direct from the masters if the sleeve info is to be believed.

If that's true then that bootleg needs to be liberated!deadagain wrote:Isn't the 'On The Wireless' boot supposedly direct from the masters if the sleeve info is to be believed.

I can't find any info on that boot anywhere.
Perhaps a wiki entry is in order too

Hell, yes ... I have all the info and the pictures and should do the page ... but there's other things first on the list, so here the raw basics ... ...
THE SISTERS OF MERCY ON THE WIRELESS - LIVE AT THE BBC - all tracks digitally transferred and mastered direct from the analogue BBC Archives’. Contains all of the tracks recorded by The Sisters for the BBC (for Peel, Jensen & the Whistle Test). The quality is perfect (which can’t be said for other versions released such as Psychedelic Sessions, etc., all of which are incomplete FM radio recordings and sometimes even include incorrect tracks actually recorded elsewhere!) Limited numbered edition of 25 only - black CD - MVE1 - 2012 - Made in UK - Insert includes full recording details of the tracks, 14 tracks. Total running time: - 56:51

That's very interesting.
But the release date, being 2012, makes me a bit sceptical as to whether it's really from the analogue masters, as the rebroadcast on digital radio was in 2008.
Can anyone verify the disc isn't just a copy of the lossy rebroadcast?
