Advice please: Bradford on a Friday or Saturday night

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I'm off to Bradford this weekend (Feb 6-8), ostensibly for work but largely to take her ladyship away and break the news gently that I'm going to be unavailable for V-Day the following week

Nice hotels, four-poster beds etc in Haworth should cover the romance bit, but some advice on anywhere worth going would be appreciated.

I'll be working in Bradford until about 6pm on the Saturday. Otherwise my time is largely my own.

Gigs, comedy shows, theatre, restaurants are all good. Clubs and curries less so.

All suggestions gratefully considered.

Good work Mister S!

All though sadly I wouldn't think we fitted most people's idea of a romantic night out.

Thanks QB. I've experienced Leeds in the past (went to Uni in York so got to know the place quite well - ex still lives round there which could prompt a lively chance encounter if I get anywhere near Cookridge).

Restaurant-wise my usual test of a city is the likelihood of finding a good, authentic Russian restaurant ... but that's because I'm a pretentious fop at heart

Mexican sounds promising, or a non-chain Italian without a microwave.

So what do you sound like? (sadly I'm too technologically impoverished to master this new-fangled MP3 malarky - it were all badly-recorded tapes off the radio in my day).

More pertinently, what are your chances of not upsetting a girl who lists Erasure, REO Speedwagon and Chicago among her favourite acts.

Well we certainly _aren't_ AOR...

We've been described as Joy Division meets Carter USM, and others seem to think we sound like The Rose Of Avalanche... :?

Anyway, hope you have a nice weekend wherever you end up going...!

Sounds promising. So where can I send her ladyship while I go to the gig?

No. The constructive dismissal comes with the Tuesday night in Burnley next month.

I thought being a football reporter would be a laugh. Then the stupid buggers got relegated and all these midweek matches turned up to annoy me.

I wouldn't mind but I'm not even a West Ham fan

More like AGREE...
As a Leeds-lad born and bred, but one who happens to work in Bratfuhd for 8 hours a day, let me tell you the best bit of the city of the Broad Ford is the railway line/road outta there...

Bradford v Leeds in the culture/going out/having a good time-stakes is a no-brainer (as I think the lingo has it.) Leeds has everything a modern city should have (yeah, yeah-the bad as well as the good) and I'm afraid that Bradford will forever live in its shadow. And, frankly, long may it be so!!! :innocent: :von:

However, Haworth'll be ok at this time of year Andymackem!! Make it so... 8)
