fucking unbeleivable... what a truly awful year.
RIP mr cohen.
RIP mr cohen.
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

No 2016 hate here, just a gentle Len celebration.
82, went out on top both professionally and creatively, seemed content and happy. Even got to so goodbye to Marianne and tell her he was coming.
And his last tours were a thing of beauty, I've still got an abiding memory of him skipping off stage, laughing with the Webb sisters

Oh Leonard.
He has provided such a soundtrack for my life over the years.
My favourite memory is of driving over the mountains on the Czech/German border in the snow listening to Songs Of Love & Hate.

Sisters Of Mercy
Oh the sisters of mercy, they are not departed or gone.
They were waiting for me when I thought that I just can't go on.
And they brought me their comfort and later they brought me this song.
Oh I hope you run into them, you who've been travelling so long.
Yes you who must leave everything that you cannot control.
It begins with your family, but soon it comes around to your soul.
Well I've been where you're hanging, I think I can see how you're pinned:
When you're not feeling holy, your loneliness says that you've sinned.
Well they lay down beside me, I made my confession to them.
They touched both my eyes and I touched the dew on their hem.
If your life is a leaf that the seasons tear off and condemn
they will bind you with love that is graceful and green as a stem.
When I left they were sleeping, I hope you run into them soon.
Don't turn on the lights, you can read their address by the moon.
And you won't make me jealous if I hear that they sweetened your night:
We weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right,
We weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right.
We forgive as we forget
As the day is long.
As the day is long.

Bless you Leonard on your journey and thanks for the decades of music and the most memorable and moving concerts.

Not entirely unexpected but damnit Oddly enough I took the notion to listen to him at 1am this morning, when I knew I should be getting some sleep instead. It does sadden me that he may have died with the news of Trump's victory ringing in his ears.
Glad I got to see him once. It was a perfect gig in terms of sound. His voice was utterly stunning and very entertaining chat between songs.
I don't use the term legend lightly but he most definitely is one.

Lots of radio tributes here in Ireland where he is popular. There was a nice tribute as I was driving home tonight in which one contributor said that Leonard's lyrics had more "pressure per square inch" in them than most others.
In thought it was an apt description.
