THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. I was reminded, by Brad's comment here, particularly the word "chastised"...

I'm sure that anyone who has spent any time in Leeds over the last 20-30 years will know who Cider Paul is (if not by that name). "Bandanna Man" is another alias. He used to be a permanent fixture in the Phono, and more recently has taken to hanging round with the Emo kids near the Corn Exchange.

Anyhoo, a friend has known Cider Paul for many years and had the following tale to tell...

Once upon a time, back in the early-to-mid 80s, Paul was a lot more sober than he is these days, and he used to record a lot of shows. One night after a Sisters show somewhere in Yorkshire, Paul was hitching home, and happened to be picked up by the band. About halfway back to Leeds, the penny dropped with one of the band: "Oi, you're that cnut that's been taping all our shows!"

To cut a long story short, Eldritch and co marched Paul back to his flat and forced him to hand over all his original tapes. No more Sisters recordings from Cider Paul!

I think more likely to be the guy who taped all the soundchecks and gigs. Forget his name there was a falling out on Dominion. The chairman was involved.

I love the tone of nostalgia in that thread from 2003 discussing the period 1995-2001 as if it's an eternity since - would have been fun to pop in as a ghost from the future and write that it's 2018 and the Sisters have recently completed yet another almost sold out tour, and yet STILL haven't released anything :lol:

I remember a long chat with Tobias, a few tours after 98 - he was quite sheepish about that whole period and what happened.

This takes me back - I knew Paul as Shakey Paul from Record Fairs back in the day (Griffin, Astoria, The One Out near Roundhay Park and others).

Last saw him at The Ritz gig in Manchester 85 (we were supposed to be giving him a lift) - not sure to where as we lived in different cities - but out of Manchester at least.

However at the end of the gig Paul was nowhere to be found - presumed gone in search of more cider or other refreshments.

Damn - that's almost 33 years ago!

:D TBH I'm surprised (albeit happy) to hear that Paul is still with us - figured his lifestyle back in the day was not conducive to a life of crosswords in front of the fire with a mug of Yorks Tea.

Studio sessions certainly - but don't believe many of the live ones came from the band.. other than one or two notable exceptions.

As for Paul's tapes, nearer the bar than the band :D

To be fair the bar in the Warehouse was dead close to the stage.

I always thought would be a particularly good tune for the Sisters to cover.

Especially a version like this... a la "I Was Wrong".

Ah, would he be the guy me and a few friends only knew as "dopey-voiced guy"? On tapes he's often heard asking someone else to hold the tape recorder so he can go to the bar or the toilet. At least one tape features the sound of him pissing. Aha, looking at the photo on that facebook page it just might be the same guy, it's a long time, so I'm not sure.
EDIT: Yes that first pic labelled "outside crew" is the guy I'm talking about. :lol: :lol:
