Nine While Nine -- French cover song /w video

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Greeting everyone.

I've been lurking in the forum, but finally decided to Register an account.

I'm a musician from Montreal, Canada. Been a fan of TSOM since the 80s! I'm a bit older...

I mostly write my own material, but once in while I record a cover song. When I do cover songs I translate songs to French. Well... Yaaa, as per the topic title says, I did a cover of Nine While Nile in French, or should I say Quebecois.

It was a great experience. I tried to recreate as best I could the "feeling" of the song, including using DMX drum machine samples for the drum. I can also confirm a few things with you all: 1) the original track was slowed down making the keys offset by approx 45cents, 2) the guitar on the right side is raw, but on the right has chorus.

I also made a video, which according to my understanding "waiting for the train" is related to the rush of a drug hit. Hence, the video dealing with drugs. And ahhh hmmm, also dealing with the Sisters of Mercy (the Catholic Church nuns) and some things there were doing...

If you want more details on the production I'd be glad to share all with you.

Unless I am mistaken, this would be the first Sisters of Mercy song in French?

Nifty explanation from AE here, on The Sisters Of Mercy.

Nine While Nine could also mean South to north, North to south, East to west and West to east. How the trains go in UK.

Good effort, but sorry, Songs should be performend in the language they were written. It's like Nena's 99 red ballons video, good effort, but original is far better.

Hihi ... I Wanna Be Sedated ? ...  ... I like your video as it shows a bit of the the bass and guitar lines ... :) ... and also that it is in French.
Heaven knows whether it is the first one in French. At least, it's the first one in French that I have heard. Unfortunately, my French is very limited,
but the vocals sound good, in a typical French manner ... :D ... definitely nothing disturbing to my taste ... ;D ...

I like the music and production o this cover.
As my french are really bad, i believe someone fluent in both languages must provide us the rest with critic about lyrics.
First listening was positive in general.

Hey RDBOIS,

I just moved to Montreal, and I'm having a hard time learning French, your cover it's both awesome and educative since I know these lyrics by heart.

Btw, if you ever want to jam or play some sisters together, just drop me a message!

So, welcome to HL forums, I've joined this place 12 years ago, so it's safe to say:

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Yeah, ok, I'm still not sure about the true meaning of the 'train' -- drug rush VS destination.

From what I gather Leonard Cohen had a very close and personal relationship with the Sisters of Mercy (the nuns), because he spent time in the mental wards as a patient and also playing music.

Cohen was part of the MKUltra experiments in Montreal (some claim he actually volunteered) at the Allen Memorial Hospital. Six religious orders participated in creating these psychiatric experimentation -- namely the Sisters of Mercy.

"In the spring of 1970, the suits at Columbia Records, looking for a way to make some money off of the strangest artist in their stable, came up with a smashing idea: they would send Leonard Cohen on a European tour. “I want to play mental asylums, Cohen told Bob Johnston." “Leonard wanted to play some asylums because he was in a bin one time. So we played four, five, six asylums or something."

On spending time with his hero Cohen, Eldritch had this to say:“He was effortlessly brilliant. A king among men. The most remarkable thing about him was that he was open and engaging. He listened as much as he spoke. We learned from each other. As a fan of the musician and of the man, that was humbling and inspiring.

This is why my video shows clips of the nuns, the MkUltra program, with other more modern considerations.

Love it, thank you.

This is more a copy (a serious one indeed) than a cover.
Make it s french version, not just by language.
That could be nice

I'd like to start with a Flamenco Floorshow.

A Mariachi Marian.

Unfortunately I don't have the skills to make these real but I like the idea.
