Inspire me ....

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

OK. It's Friday evening and I'm bored. I'm also a bit pissed since the G&Ts I started drinking earlier have become progressively more G and less T as the night has gone on.

So ... inspire me.

Pick a piece of music ... whether it's an album or an opera, a TV theme or a B-side that you think I really should listen to.

Then tell me why. That way it's not just a list, see. Don't go for stuff that's obscure just to look cool, but go for something which has a meaning for you personally because it's a piece of music that you have grown to love for whatever reason.

Then when we're finished we can all listen to each other's choices and have a big virtual group hug or something.

I'll chip in with a suggestion of my own when I'm a bit more capable of coherent thought ... until then the floor is yours :D
Names are just a souvenir ...

Lambchop - This Corrosion

A sublime, stunning "folk" version of The Sisters classic - also 0 IMHO very relaxing!

I should say that one of the memorable and annoying TV Themes is "The Thin Blue Line"

I'm with 'Call Of The West' by Wall of Voodoo. Damn fine sounds.

I've got a press cutting somewhere to say that the singer, Stannard Ridgeway, was supposed to be joining the Sisters, but I'm too pissed to remember exactly when- either it was to replace Ben Gunn or Gary Marx- or possibly someone else....could be Enoch Powell, Duncan Edwards or Miriam Stoppard, for all I'm capable of recognising at the moment.

As the cultured chap you are I think they may be a limit on what I can suggest.
But here goes! Something I can recommend which is a nice bliss out/relaxing album after a hectic day is the soundtrack to "1492: Conquest Of Paradise" Usually works for me :) Unless it's been one of those beyond redemption days

Another "awe" inspiring track IMHO is "Battle without Honor or Humanity" - The Kill Bill Theme - what a great track!

Friday night inspiration...
B. Streisand "Woman in love", or anything by Vaya Con Dios, or maybe "California dreaming" or "Will you still love me tomorrow"? No? What about some Kylie or J. Lo then, or Black Eyed Peas? Well maybe some Chopin's mazurkas so I don't have to delete this post tomorrow morning?

I should point that this track inspires me to either start a band, learn the guitar or beg a good friend of mine, who runs a rock venue to book the band! (most likely the latter!)

*flaps hands* i dunno :| it takes about 3 weeks for the site to load on my 56k steam-driven dialup thingy. you'd be quicker to try soulseek (there's usually plenty of their stuff on there)

If you haven't already tried it:

A clear night sky
An empty field
A portable CD player
A copy of The Dark Side Of The Moon

No drugs required.
Go to sleep now, Francis.
