Ghost Dance & the Quiff empire...

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

err, it's very early days - designs have just been finalised and the process of creating and gathering content has just begun, but i thought you all might wish to know what i've been doing recently:

http://www.ghostdance.co.uk/

the official ghost dance website.

:notworthy: :innocent:

it's only a "holding page" so far, but myself and "that nice mr marx" have begun getting the material together to populate the site. the plan is to have a complete and factually accurate biography, a discography accompanied by notes from mr marx about the writing and recording of each piece, tonnes of rare ghost dance demos, photos, videos, etc etc available to download all taken from gary's substantial archive of material... there will be a message board/forum where you post about how ace i am, maybe even a "shop" where you can buy re-issued ghost dance stuff (such as the planned "best of..." cd) direct from the source (ie: gary).

one of the main features initially will be some form of poll allowing you to vote for which tracks you would like to see released on cd, and which ghost dance demos, remixes, live tracks you would also like to see made available.

see? he really IS nice.. even lets you choose what to put on the cd :von: :D

as i say it's early days yet with the site, but both myself and gary are keen to progress with it, so i'll keep you informed via heartland as soon as there's anything more to tell :)

unlikely, i guess if it was a tsom rendition of a track then the band-members at the time all have a say in what happens to it.

more chance of the ghost dance live version though... ...and they did do it live with hussey and von guesting, didn't they? :? :? suppose you could always drop mr marx a mail and request it :D

he's already put new acoustic solo versions of phantom and poison door on his www.garymarx.com site 8)

Nice design, QB. You're (also judging from other stuff) good at what you do.

www.ghostdance.co.uk progress report (for those that care):

With the initial prototype designs finished, we have now settled on a design for the site.

Ideas for navigation have been tried and we've chosen a simple and effective system of drop-down menus akin to the www.marchviolets.co.uk site (which in truth I did as a test-run for this site)

We've pretty much settled on the site layout, section titles & content and I've started to build a skeleton version of the site, with template pages.

Cross-browser compatibility and consistency of look and feel across platforms/browsers is currently undergoing testing :)

Gary is currently writing new editorial content for the site and collecting together archives of artwork, sounds, videos, etc etc and together we have started to populate the discography section.

"Under-the-bonnet" functionality is almost complete (content managment systems, database design etc) allowing for Gary to maintain and update the areas of the site that are likely to change frequently.

All in all, it's going well and is looking like being a really interesting and quite expansive site ;) :notworthy:

Just in case you were interested...

Diary of a website pt. II ;)

right, here's a wee update on the site's progress:

• the discography section is almost complete, just awaiting a couple of cover scans

• gary has written "recording diaries" for all the singles and the album - they are very personal and very insightful and make superb reading!! :notworthy:

• functionality for each of the image galleries (one for clippings, one for live photos and one for PR pictures) is almost done and we're in the process of collating old photos, flyers and artwork.

(if you have any old photos, scans, etc etc you would like to contribute to the site then please feel free to email me!)

• downloads: exclusive audio and video footage is being collated and edited - there will be streaming video of live concert footage, real audio and mp3 downloads of rare demo and live tracks etc

basically, all is going well 8)
