I'm currently sitting in mid west France, visiting the in-laws, as it was our only chance before the pups had to be back at school, then good ol Uncle Boris, his puppet master, Teflon Dom and Honest Grant decide to f**k it right up. Now we have to quarantine when I get back to an area with 620 cases at the last count, from an area with 10 cases. That makes sense. I wonder if I can use the same excuses as Teflon did?.

Both my partner and I tested positive for it about 2 months ago when we went to give plasma, my anti body count was too low to be useful to anyone but I had to go and see just incase anyone wanted my manky, THC filled blood to help fight this awful virus.

It's like that here in all the shops in Hungary. Has been for months.
Some places even have someone on the door who will not let you in without a mask.
I went to the little store over the road the other day for a loaf of bread & totally forgot my mask. They wouldn't even let me stand on the door step & hand them the money for a loaf. My fault completely & fair play to them. I did go home & made my own bread though

In Germany, face masks have been compulsory in public transport and in all the shops for months already. Some people start to neglect it, though. On the other hand, there are still shops where you are not allowed in without taking one of their shopping trolleys with you, allegedly to secure the 1.5 m distance ... which is just nonsense, IMHO, as people take the trolleys only to "park" them somewhere inside the shop to wander around collecting their purchases from the shelves ... Fortunately, indeed, everybody has to wear a face mask.

To nick a Robert-ism, I fcuking despair. I really do.
Infection rates going up all over Europe right now (thankfully mortality rates remain low) & tightened restrictions are starting to come into force here in Hungary. The supermarkets are repainting the 2 metre distance markers on the ground.
I went to pick up a few things I needed to make bake pizza later. First staff member I saw in Tesco walked straight past me without a mask on (bear in mind door security won't even let you in the shop without a mask). Woman on the meat counter had her mask draped around her neck & 3 shelf stackers also sported little neck warmers too.
Next stop Spar as they have a better choice of ham. Got to the self service checkout & the woman there who pretends to wipe down the scanners & touch screens after each shopper wasn't wearing her mask. At this point I lost it. I asked her if I need to wear a mask (I was wearing one). She said, "Of course you do.". So I asked her why she wasn't & told her to put one on or I would call the store manager. Reluctantly she put one on but with her nose hanging over the top.
WTF is the point of that?

I've found that most people are following the rules as well , there's always the odd scroat but generally not seen anything out of order apart from a gathering of about 300 people at the nearby reservoir when it was scorching hot a few months ago .

Here in the urban wonderland that is Pudsey most folk nearby are behaving and there is widespread mask compliance in local shops. If you go down the hill to the local people magnet that is the Owlcotes Shopping Centre then it all seems to go a bit awry with social distancing and mask wearing not as pronounced as a few weeks ago. But if people listen to mixed messaging, particularly from the likes of the talkRADIO right-wing shock jocks, what do you expect?

I miss a lot of the ad-hoc conversations that spring up around the office.

One of my most favourite things to do, and one of the ways in which I believe I was most effective, was in helping get half-developed ideas or shared challenges out of people's heads and into some form of thing we could all stand and point at, and work together to resolve.

I used to spend a lot of my time overhearing conversations between different teams, and as a result having spontaneous informal sessions around a whiteboard helping them all get what was in their individual heads onto some kind of diagram so we could talk about this thing, solve their problems, share knowledge and develop ideas.

It's really hard to be effective in that serendipitous way when you are all on pre-arranged Zoom catchups

That said, not having to wear pants is a boon. Saved a fortune on laundry

I'm normally an event sparky at the NEC, I have done 3 jobs there this year. I was meant to be on the build up for the Nightingale Hospital there but got the 'rona instead. I doubt I will have any event work this year at any venues. I know how all those sound techs and roadies feel. I think I'd better find some new work

Actually, via teams, we're talking aaa lot, same with resolving issues, but not tech issues.
I don't have to wash shirts, iron them.
I got plenty of time not spent on traffic/public transport (but down sides are: I used to read less which i did in the morning; but it's getting better recently; i walk lot, lot less; bevor Covid i used to walk at least 6 miles/day).

Thankfully Leeds is not as Tesco dominated as many other parts of the UK. Locally we have Sainsbury's, Asda, M&S, Co-op and Morrisons. I'm still tickled by the fact that, with the choice of the whole city, Waitrose chose to put their first store invading the grim northern wastes in Meanwood. If you know Leeds you'd find it strange too
