What's your favourite 1985 gig?
Regardless if it's from the Tune In tour with Gary Marx, Armageddon '85 tour sans Gary (altough I imagine that the presence of Gary Marx will probably lead many choices to the first tour of 85):
i think most of the -85 gigs are near perfect, but RAH 18.6. is the best performance by some margin...if the rest are near-perfect, it's downright perfect...Von's vocals especially on that one. Other than that, i have slight preferance for the ones that have either Nine While Nine or SKOS in the setlist.
Though now that i think of it, Milan 29.4. has wonderful version of Amphetamine Logic...
16.03.85 Newcastle, Tiffany´s is my choice. Perfect setlist, great versions of FALAA, Train and Gimme Shelter. Nine while Nine/Ghostrider is a monster medley. To bad they just did the medly one time only.

The Royal Albert Hall gig was great as an event- especially with the 'menu' given out on entry and the shiny ticker tape cascade near the end. The acoustics were a step up from the usual, too. Memorable also for the mad dying fly impersonations in the emptying hall during Ghostrider- it felt like there were only about 200 of us still there.
My favourite gig of '85 was Manchester Ritz- a balcony all round and the floor being a sprung 'traditional' dancefloor. Everyone was jammed in by the rail running around the raised dancefloor and the place was quite literally bouncing. I remember that the band were using some projections of Merciful Release logos onto large discs. The designs were the wrong way round (head facing towards the right) either by accident or possibly because the stage was too shallow to have the equipment in the right place. Suitably Spinal Tap-ish. Sorry to sound a bit anorakish but it just stuck in my mind!
As I remember, the sound on this tour was really good in most places and the band was really tight, so I remember thinking that The Sisters were really on their way at this point. And, there was dry ice like I'd never seen anywhere before. Even at gigs these days, the smell of it can take me back to March 85 in a second.
