But Genevieve

Got any interesting thoughts on a set of lyrics? Any that don't involve the word "indeed"? Find yourself struggling to decipher all those obtuse references Von makes? Read "1959 And All That" and still no clearer? Nope, us neither. Postcards found lying in a skip around the back of the Chemists can be found here... Don't say you weren't warned.

Oh, I thought it was 'you're lovely' - but I do have a notoriously tin ear.

only had chance to listen once but i thought it was "...i think your ugly" which i thought was cruel even by Eldritch standards
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: I guess you have it nailed.
And I have a suggestion to make as to what it is about.
Genevieve, a saint and heroess to Paris, was known for her welfare, her caring for ths sick and poor.
I'll interpret Her as symbol for Paris which I'll in turn take as symbol for the EU here.
Here's a Briton singing a farewell to a symbol of fro the EU then, (That nursed the sick and poor, wales, Northern Ireland, former coal- and industrial regions the Tories and banks didn't even consider worth a coup de grâce?)
Could this be the long awaited comment of a political animal to Brexit?
Wrapping this up in a lovesong would be a very eldritch thing to do! ;D

I've come to a place where I think this is a song about the fairer sex in general but couched as a song to one woman.

Yeah, it reminds me of those situations, when it's not easy to leave things at that ... but I wouldn't build a stereotype from that.
Although, it is, of course, playing with stereotypes ...

I mean Genevieve as a girl’s name but also Genevieve as a collective noun. I love you all but it’s time to move on because I am committed to one.
