BAISE MOI

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

A kind friend has leant me the above title today and I shall be watching it tonight (and yes I am aware of the translation).

Apparently it's the most sexually graffic movie ever to be given certificate in Britain. Anybody seen it? What's the lowdown?

I've seen it. Actually it's not a very good movie. It's hard to watch it for its cineastic qualities. Wich leaves the sex and the violence, wich in my opinion is just gross. Not provocative, or vigorating, or mind expanding, just gross. I think they wanted to do a Thelma & Louise with hardcore porn in it. What they got was a low budget porn film with lots of fake blood and two Susan Sarandon wannabees.

Enjoy though :)

I'll second that - I didn't enjoy it at all for the same reasons. It didn't have anything to say, just seemed to rely on the shock factor to make an impression. And there are far better and less grim ways of shocking than those used. Did you watch it yet Steve?

Review lifted from todays 303 Times;

"Baise Moi follows the exploits of Nadine & Manu as they wreak revenge on a society that has exploited and violated them, both physically and mentally.

Director (and writer of the novel) Virginie Despentes attempts a Punk Noir vision of femine revenge. A road movie drawing it's influence from N.B.K. and Thelma & Louise. The movie wears it's influences on it's sleeve, the first shortcomings of a film with many.

From the shocking rape scene within the first five minutes to the blood bath in a sex club the film shocks. If this was the intention of Despentes then she suceeds excellently.

What Baise Moi fails to do is present itself as a plausable attempt at a Punk road movie. The script is stilted, the cinematography dragged down by the constant need to upset the viewer.

It is neither ironic in it's message or statemental. Baise Moi fails in every respect other than an art house porno flick.

Pointless, banal and lacking originality the film only works if the viewer happens to be a fan of chic French porn.

A true sign of a memeorable film is waking up the morning after and not being able to turn off from the images of the movie. This film indeed does that.

I fought the law and the law won [x2]
I needed money 'cause I had none

I left my baby and it feels so bad
Guess my race is run
She's the best girl that I ever had
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the

Robbin' people with a six-gun
I fought the law and the law won [x2]
I lost my girl and I lost my fun
I fought the law and the law won [x2]

I don't think anyone can cover the Clash properly. Am I the only one besides Burn and JB that remembers them as far back as the late 1970's?

I do not wish to "participate" but would be most interested in "Directing" the Movie Version of your, as yet unwritten, "Masterpeice" :-)

@ Barman Blast, yes Zodiac's other books are a porno centric as they come. He and his mates do some really really filthy things in some horrible vulgar places with/without some really skanky women. I'm almost afraid of meeting him....better take some sani-wipes with me....right?
