Dominion- Too Long?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

OI! dont mess with floodland!

its one of em albums your just NOT allowed to mess with. Dark side of the moon and ziggy stardust being others. Removal of any instrument or the shortening of any song launches nuclear missles from above the chemist :von:
the question is not whether its too long but why its got a bleeding saxophone on it at all :@
yes, I agree! The saxophone sucks... But I don't mind the song being too long - it has its atmosphere!

I also agree with some of you that 'This Corrosion' goes on too long.
It should be shortened to... ooh, about the same length of 'Home of the Hitmen'.

AFAIK the record goes to Bill Withers' "Lovely Day". But I may be wrong.
You want repetition?

One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock, rock,
Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, rock,
Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, rock,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight.

Put your glad rags on and join me, hon,
We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

When the clock strikes two, three and four,
If the band slows down we'll yell for more,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

When the chimes ring five, six and seven,
We'll be right in seventh heaven.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

When it's eight, nine, ten, eleven too,
I'll be goin' strong and so will you.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

When the clock strikes twelve, we'll cool off then,
Start a rockin' round the clock again.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight.
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.

The word 'Rock' is mentioned 35 times in a two minute song. Gadzooks!
That's a rate of 17.5 'Rocks' per minute, or, to use the scientific term:
17.5 Rock/min

I counted the number of times Von says "heartland" in Heartland once. I can't remember exactly, but it was more than 100. I can't remember exactly how long the song is; even if it's 5 minutes, that's a ballpark figure of 20 heartland/min. :P

Or even Na naaa na, na na naaa na, na na naaa na, Hey Jude.

I did a count once when I was younger and had nothing better to do with my life, and I think it came in at 40 times "My heartland heartland heartland", or was it 40 groups of 4? Whatever, it was a surprisingly round number.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Maybe it was the three "heartland"s in the main bit of the lyrics and then 39 sets of 3? That comes out at 120 which seems to ring a bell.

You clearly have wisdom beyond your years, young man. They played Hunk Dory in the North Bar last night. Very appropriate. But four pounds fifty for a Black Russian? They could give Eldritch lessons in taking the p*ss.

Yeah, but you should see Mrs T dancing to it. She doesn't get the chance very often, but when it happens, she shines like a diamond.

In fact, I'm losing the will to live. Is it only 3:37? Crikey! Still nearly an hour and a half left in work.

15:44 - 46 minutes to pub time, I can only get 6 consecutive plays of Dominion into that time, if it was shorter I would fit more in.

That settles the argument.

The case for the defence would like to submit for evidence, the following:

"A Design Fo-or Life
A Design Fo-or Life
A Design Fo-or Life

A Design For Life"

Couldn't the Welsh gimp have thought of something else?

No, I don't think it's too long (just to drift off off-topic). It's just fine. Mighty fine.

I've always been of the opinion that it is slightly long. I love Mother Russia when it finally kicks in but I'm another one that wouldn't mind trashing the sax part.
Gimme Shelter has always given me the same feeling too.
