Sisters Vinyl Bootleg Encyclopedia available for pre-order

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

"MANY SPLATTERED THINGS"

The Sisters of Mercy Vinyl Bootleg Encyclopedia

***PRE-ORDER FORM IS LIVE***

After nearly a decade in development, Part I of the encyclopedia -- focusing on 12" vinyl bootlegs -- is nearing completion. It has 195 entries. Each entry details the content of a bootleg, its origin and background, information on its title and design, and a guide to all existing editions and variants in terms of sleeves, labels and vinyl colors.
High quality color images for almost all variants are included. Information about the quantity and value for each edition is also included.

A complete list of the bootlegs included in the encyclopedia, as well as a sample entry with color plates, are available using the pre-order link.

For info about how to pre-order Volume 1 (titles starting with 0-G) and the content and pricing of each edition, click the link above, read on and fill in the form.

Could it not be incorporated into the existing bootleg section of the SistersWiki, it would be easier to access & keep up to date with future additions?

That were nice, and good part of the work is already done. It were plenty more work to do this, however ... but after all it would come for free for everyone. On the other hand, it's also understandable, if people want some reward for their immense effort and work... ... and the titles of the additional articles especially in the Groovy Bastard edition look interesting. Some of the stuff has been discussed around here and elsewhere for x times, but some of it not, and it looks nicely compiled. Although, a cover art poster in reasonable size will hardly be done by "homeprinting" ... ...

Btw, is it not possible to download and save the bootlegs section (even in parts) from the SistersWiki or any other website as a pdf to one's computer? Thought there were such tools all around nowadays...

Anyway, the choice of bootlegs there as much as in the SistersWiki is selective, bootlegs are missing including all the lathe-cut ones, while lots of the Greek and Australian ones are included in this encyclopedia ... contrary to the SistersWiki, which again includes a few not listed there ... not to mention discogs, where completely crazy entries for bootlegs can be found. And we shouldn't forget other pages like sistersbootlegs or the ever glorious ultimatesistersguide ... ...

So basically 90 quid for the 12" section including some interviews, some extensive lists and history (the latter two hopefully well researched and not driven by personal favourites), not exactly a bargain, IMHO. Judging by minimum wage per hour, quite a give-away, though. Well given this, the SistersWiki and all the other pages including discogs are, of course, the work of full mentally debiles far from any reasonable homo oeconomicus...  ...

Maybe, someone should order it for the Sharing Section... :innocent: ...

Thank you for your support Gaijin.

It is disappointing to see the kind of reception the project is getting here. Thankfully, other parts of the internet are a lot more supportive and understand this is not a money grab.

Sorry you got the impression your really enormous work (and I know what I'm tallking about) was seen here as only a money grab.
Maybe reading more deeply could have avoided that...  ... Anyway, it's kind enough of you to offer it here, too, and not only to
other parts of the internet...  ...

I've moved on a little, however, it looks great and will no doubt be an interesting read, with a significant effort behind it, so I'm in. Well done 😀

A pdf isn't something I would pay money for. I only have a small tablet and my phone to view it on. I would happily spend 50 to 60 pounds on a hardback book, akin to what Cult Never Dies produce. I recently purchased their excellent photo book on 1980 -2000 Black Metal t shirts.

While we cannot hold each record in our own hands the results of his dedication will hopefully cater to those that share his deep interest in these collectables.

this sounds like an incredible body of work. I love the idea of the extras like who is been responsible behind the scenes. A massive congratulations on your research in what, while undoubtedly a labour of love, was still a remarkable amount of labour to say nothing of the cost in acquiring at of the source material... Amazing
