concert recording

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

what do people recommend for recording concerts? i mean audio, not video.

Are mobiles good enough these days? do you need a special app to reduce the distortion from the high volume?

I'm interested to know what people use, as would like to try recording concerts next year, but can't spend a fortune on equipment.

Thanks!

(not sure if this is has been asked before or is the right section to put this question in? moderators please move it if it's not)

@MoBetaBlues you'd do well to see what other tapers use & the results they get from the setup.
For example, @Eggi1 went with the phone option recently as follows
Equipment: SP-CMC-8HC + RØDE AI-Micro + Samsung S23(RØDE reporter app)
One of the key things though is mics. The better the mic, the better the capture.
This website is also worth a good browse. Lots of good tips & even a yard sale section where you might be able to pick up a bargain or two.
Good luck
Cheers.

Great, thanks very much Pista! I've no idea what those codes mean apart from the Samsung bit, but I shall look into it!

The SP-CMC-8HC is the microphone.
The RØDE AI-Micro is an audio interface that the mic plugs into & that plugs into the phone. That'll control the gain/ filters a bit like a mic amp..
& RØDE reporter is a phone app where you start/ stop/ pause, set recording modes etc. :)
Cheers.

High volume at a Sisters gig? I wouldn't worry about that.
