Life goals

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Whilst chatting with my eldest brother over a bottle of Morrisons Rioja, he informed me that one of his 'life goals' was to taste a bottle of chateau d'Yquem in its prime. This got me a thinking. I had come to the conclusion that the reason I got drunk most nights was because I had achieved everything I wanted - OK career, loving wife and kids, nice house in a decent area, appropriate car. Then I remembered there were a couple of things I had dreamt of doing before all that started. Firstly, to see the Palio, an ancient traditional horse race around the piazza in Siena, which caught my imagination the first time I visited Italy in 1984. Secondly, and the reason I chose to study Italian at University, to help my Mum discover more about her Father, who came to this country from the Swiss border with Italy via Milan in 1915 and died while she was in her early teens.

So, do you have any such ambitions you would like to share?
Go to sleep now, Francis.

Away goals even.

hmmm.... i guess most of mine would be playing related, but the realistic ones ive already acheived i guess... played abroad, released an album....

I suppose to make a living from music would be the next logical step without going for the whole star thing.

boring muso...sorry....

Nice topic!

Own a house with a sea view.

Have a drink at the Rainbow Room, Chrysler Building.

Visit the temple of Karnak.

And if there's time left: bring peace and understanding to the world.

For me, an inappropriate car would be a Mini, cos it's too small and wouldn't do my dodgy back any good; or a Mercedes cos it's too big and my reverse parking's not quite as good as it should be; or a Lotus, cos it's too ostentatious and I couldn't carry it off. So, I drive a Ford Focus. Cheap, reliable and common as muck.

To acquire sufficient income to be able to quit work and travel, while being young enough to cope with quitting work and travelling.

To actually turn any one of half-a-dozen ideas I have for a novel into a viable work of fiction rather than a concept scribbled down on the back of a beer mat.

To make it illegal to be an estate agent, or play any role in the purchase or sale of property for your own personal profit. I'm very disillusioned with my current house transaction.

Being able to earn a living from writing would be good.
To have a little house with a garden, and to watch the kids play (when they become plural).
To meet Von.
To be a good person.
To try and make the world a better place in some small way.

Those last two sound incredibly naff and beauty-pageant-ish, but I do think about them a lot.

I mean I don't have big dreams, I just want to settle and enjoy what I have.

I wish I could drink more alcohol, without getting an alcoholic :urff:

That my kids will survive in this cold world.
That my business will last for another 10 years.
When I was a kid, I wanted to travel to the moon :eek:
I hope I will have enough money some day so I could travel with my family more.
I hope that I never take up smoking again.
I want a better body. More trained, that is.
I think someone set my soul alight

To retire comfortably at 46:

• become an internet surfing alcoholic;
• read more books;
• watch more telly;
• listen to more music, and
• have Apple Computer Inc. send me their latest goody as it rolls of the production line.

To wake up every morning.
To not have to go to work.
To pat more ponies.
To see the Northern Lights.
To sit on Benaries beach again and watch the Ibicenian sun go down.
To watch a SeaHawks game.
To watch the Monaco Grand Prix.
To sit outside Raffles Hotel in the exact same spot I occupied when I was 3.
To stop sticking my head in the sand.
