Desert Island discs

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

We've all dreamt about it, surely. So, what would yours be? Mine? Either:

The Dark Side Of The Moon (all 10 tracks)

OR

God, how do you choose? Think of your favourite bands and pick a song:

Bowie.
Zeppelin.
Floyd.
Queen.
Genesis.
Supertramp.
Sisters.
Heep.
Slade.
And one for Junior, Nirvana.

Which songs? Come As You Are for the last one. As for the rest. Anything will do.
Go to sleep now, Francis.

Well I never knew that! :notworthy: It's just such a great song. We got the name for one of our snakes from it (Astaroth).

Just 10? In no particular order? Ouch.

Mahler's 5th Symphony. All of it, sorry. I know it's 75 minutes long but it is incredible.

Schubert's Unfinished: the piece that opened my ears to music written before I was born. A long journey, but a rewarding one.

Beethoven's Tempest Sonata: just the last movement if we're being strict, but instead of being music you can dance to, this is music which dances all by itself.

So, that's 200 years of central European culture dealt with ... now what.

TSOM: SKOS. Or maybe Lucretia. Or maybe a very rare medley of the two which I've just invented (or have I? Collectors beware MWAHAHAHAH!)

Talking Heads: Blind. In memory of a very good friend of mine, who once gave me a tape with this on it (and a load of other stuff, most of which was s**t!).

Fields of the Nephilim: Wail of Somer (and there will my heart be also). Brilliant. Awe-inspiring. And quite long. I'm after value for money on my ten picks as well.

The Smiths: Queen is Dead. If I'm on my own I'm not having Last Night I Dreamed or I Know It's Over. Sorry.

Kirsty MacColl: A New England. First single I ever owned. Nostalgia, and a damn good track.

Soft Cell: Sex Dwarf. That one's for Lou, and a great year studying in Glasgow. Never quite understood how I became known as "Sleazy Andy", but didn't mind too much!

Belinda Carlisle: Heaven is a Place on Earth. I know, I know. But this was the soundtrack to my first drunken, fumbling teenage snog.

And a book: An Equal Music, by Vikram Seth. Music, Love, London and Venice. What more does a man need from life?

Nah, too gimmicky. The other 10 are better songs anyway.
