Your fave obscure bands

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

The one I recall was 1,000 Years, Jarboe of Swans on vocals, I'm sure I have it on video somewhere in the Blast Archive.

I'm talking about 1,000 Years. Thanks for reminding me.

I have no idea what Gira or Jarboe are doing these days. (Blood, Women, Roses was released in 1986.)

I recall Patricia Morrison doing a guest reviewer spot on a music rag once, and one record she had to review was one of Gira's Swans discs. She said, "Oh, I was in a band with this guy years ago..."

Gira is fronting the somewhat disturbing(in it's own right)Angels Of Light and Jarboe has been releasing 3 solo discs(a slight exaggeration)a year since the Swans broke up in the late 90's.

Pet Hate
Marionette (nothing to do with the goth lot of similar name)
The Babysitters
Hanoi Rocks (before the recent 'reformed' version- reformed like meat products in my opinion)
Red Dogs
The Godfathers- not obscure at the time but seemingly forgotten now
Electric Gypsies

It's obvious from this I spent too much time at the Marquee in the eighties...

jarboe was 'apparently' on the new perfect circle album. Or so it says in the booklet. I think theyve only sampled her voice in it though.

What is the "Blast Archive", if one is intrigued by seeing Jarboe perform 1,000 years?

Every photo Skin ever did was marginally blurred, ever so slightly. Like, something's not quite right. Must've been a pain to get the effect 'just so'.

Well spotted BeeP!
It also includes all the $hite I recorded off the telly from 1982 onwards, my pre-recorded videos, CDs & DVDs (including copies).
There is no way I could include my cassette collection, it got totally out of hand somewhere around 1986.

Takes one to know one....but I do not have vinyl. Gave it all away in 1987 when I moved house from Az to Md. Hey space in my Honda was at a premium...and Felix my cat was of the utmost priority. He was and will always be my Baby.

Got a box of cassettes tho....:)

Quite fond of the Minus album Haldor Laxnes, can't believe anyone listed Belinda Carlisle as obscure.

But any Tindersticks fans out there should check out Copenhagen - Songs from the Forest is superb, in a strangely neo-classical kind of way.

Ofcourse I remember who they are. Matter of fact they've played as such in this area a few times these past couple of years and Dinezio has done a few solo performances. Never caught them live though.

Who remembers 'Bad Brains' from the '80's ? They were fab. Rastas with a really ethereal sort of rock sound. The Butthole Surfers are a vague memory too and Dinosaur Jnr.......
