Interesting Von Interview - extract

Post your reviews of Sisters-related material or interviews with Sisters-related musicians here. And don't believe the hype: 1985 most definitely is a fashion statement.

from http://utenti.lycos.it/THE_SISTERS_OF_M ... rview.html

From an evidently very old interview, but I thought some of you may find it interesting.......
You also mentioned on the phone that you don't like some of the Sisters fan sites on the Web? Why are you
opposed to them? Is there a particular reason(s) why the Sisters don't have an official presence on the Web?

I haven't visited any of them, but I have an obvious problem with people who breach my copyright, and I have a huge
problem with any sites that may be giving the impression that they're official - because none of the Sisters ones are.

I suspect also that most of these sites are using the Sisters to bolster some cretinous lifestyle statement that has nothing
much to do with the band. I suspect that certain misconceptions are being perpetuated by people who just don't get it.
We might be flattered - but we're not.

I'd like to say that we're not in the business of pandering to pondlife, but that's a moot point. We don't have an official
presence on the Web because every half-baked net-rumour would gain credence if we didn't immediately deny it,
because there are too many idiots who would try and cluster-f**k us with dim emails and then get upset if they got no
response (let alone free sound clips and the like), because it's a medium which is irrelevant to the music itself, because we
don't have the staff and because there's no chance of our useless record company (East West) subsidising a Sisters site.

Nevertheless, we recently put the last issue of Underneath The Rock to bed, and it may behove us to find another way of
communicating certain information and opinion. Watch this space, but don't hold your breath.

Yep. That's the rational, consistent, balanced train of thought I would expect from the fairer sex. :urff:

I don't agree. I just love the bloke. If you think about it for a minute can you think of anything more horrendous than being hero worshipped ? Having people slavering over your every word, people thinking they know you when they don't and the only people you want are those sound enough to be grossed out by the acolytes. The more internet fansites there are the lonelier he must become.

I have enjoyed greatly, the majority of Mr. E's output and paid cash money (legit) for his products.

I don't hero worship the bloke, analysis the lyrics, or hang on his every word but, I think some mutal respect is required.

Still think he sounds like a git in interviews.

Disagree. Von has his opinion on things as you are entitled to yours. As you freely express now. What's the difference?

It's his speaking voice JB, nothing like the onstage baritone.

Constantly setting yourself up as 'thee' authority on what is right and wrong is also unwelcome.

What went Pete Tong, an overdose of hubris?

Don't you think he's being playfully mischeivous? Von's reaction to 'fame' is definitely the most honest I've come across. Course he's a git. A clever one at that - nothing worse. But he admits it all quite merrily. And for that he's got my respect.

But maybe that's because I'm a git too. :D

Blood And Sand! Hope Richey doesn't spot the spelling mistake in that last post.

Good call. Yes, Eldritch comes across as a pompous git in print (including on the official Sisters website!), but I reckon when you actually see him being interviewed he quite often has tongue firmly in cheek. Much of what he says seems intended to provoke controversy, with particular venom reserved for hardcore Sisters fans...

I think he's hilarious, in a slightly macho Keneth Williams way. Yes, he's a aloof, pompous git but thats what makes him so special.
Although I don't believe he is a toss-bag, I very much like the expression. Tee hee.

Your all wrong.

He is an egotistical bastard. He knows full well he Can Say and Do Anything and we will still adore him.

So that is exactly what he does. He loves boards such as this because it bolsters his ego. He KNOWS we love him. He KNOWS we will pay to go see him sing. His words are merely to inflame. And that is why he does it.

He Is a very very intelligent and shrewd man. And he plays by HIS rules (which is why I admire and respect him) not ours or anyone elses. Andrew is his own man, beholden to no one. I know he dislikes Americans. but he would have made a great Founding Father for my country. He is a man who stands on his own. Now that's one sexy son of a bitch.

Actually, was listening to the Ternat gig and when Adam's guitar plays up he has to basically keep the audience entertained. Quite a few platitudes:

'Mr. Whammy are you ready to rock!' (clearly not).
'It could be worse, I could be teliing jokes' (wtf?)

I must say I did enjoy the BBC 6 interview - but that probably because Andrew Collins did his homework. Thought the Polish interview seemed to involve quite a lot of rambling.

I agree about Von being his own dude. He has nothing to prove anymore. He did the rock and roll thing, we know he's intelligent, we know he can put on a good show, make a decent video, give a good interview, he's pretty much done it all.

He flat out states he doesn't do it for the money (but he doesn't being 'exploited competently'--who wouldn't?) He has a life off the stage.

He knows we probably hate him because of the very reasons we love him and the Sisters. They're not a corporate rock band. How many bands are not slaves to their record companies and contracts and accountants?

We all know this, but in the absence of a new Sisters album, the lack of updates on the site (bastard), and alarmingly, no word about any new Sisters shows for this year, what can we do but remind ourselves why we're here to begin with?
