This is more of a plug than an update, although I'm sure most of you know that TJ is doing the electronic-rock thing with the Sputniks still.

I saw the Sputniks at the Irish Centre in Leeds in 1989, and as they came back out to do an encore someone pushed me and I put out my arm to stop myself falling and accidentally pressed some keys on the keyboard, and a bouncer pushed my head and I banged my nose on the stage and got a nosebleed. Oh happy days!

a really comfy pair of underpants/boxer shorts is a rare and beautiful thing

it becomes like a second skin, and is nearly impossible to throw away, even when washed-out, or covered in holes

I agree. I just loath the Christmas thang when you KNOW that some auntie or distant relative, having no idea what to buy you, will opt for the pants option. The sadness of knowing that one of your favourite pairs (usually when you're not looking) will be consigned to the dustbin by your better half (as even Oxfam wouldn't take them) and replaced by something shiney, new and, ahem, 'fashionable' is a very, deep emotional time for us blokes. The end of an ara. The loss of a very good friend.:cry:

Wow, a conversation about pants. Let's see how long it takes to get moved to the OT section.

Speaking of pants - I recently converted from BHS briefs to the supportive boxer thing (I could never do "baggy" - I like me bits to be snug!), and must say I'm very impressed. Initially I've taken the safe route and gone for the pocket-saving "gap" range, but may branch out into the more adventurous "Calvin Kleins off the market" range.

Interestingly enough (bear with me on this one ...) most UK supermarkets have adopted the continental practice of expanding their range of wares for sell, usually purchased on the 'gray' market. Want clothes? Go the supermarket. Want garden furniture? Go to the supermarket. Want a flat screen 46" TV with an obscure makers' logo? Go the supermarket. 'Pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap!' 'When it's gone! It's gone! etc etc

Pottering through my local Safeway a few years ago, with the entire tribe in tow, we passed a display of CK boxers piled up in a display at the end of one of the aisles, with that picture (six-pack stomach, unfesibly large bulge etc).

Twent feet past, my five year old son, ran back and stayed at the display intently. Ten seconds later, at the top of his voice, he announced 'Look everybody! That's MY Daddy!' :notworthy:

Sucking in my gut and puffing out my chest, I waltzed back and took him by the hand. Not without noticing a few admiring glances from fellow female shoppers. :D
