Any Anime fans ?

Just wondered if there was anyone out there who was into anime/Manga type stuff?

I used to watch some of the stuff when i was younger (Akira, Fists of the North Star, Urotsukidoji, Wicked City, Vampire Hunter D etc) and have recently rekindled my intrest after watching Spirited Away and the Princess Mononoke.

Now theres tonnes of the stuff out there, can anyone recomend anything ?

erm, i quite like vampire hunter, or whatever it was called the blood.. lol something like that :S

Oh and "spirited away" is a great film.. its animated and japanease..

at the time i thought akira was stunning, both technically and stylistically (lurve those bikes!), if a tad convoluted in the plot department.

i tried watching a few others but none of them ever really grabbed me. couldnt get to grips with the unfailingly poor dialogue, dodgy dubbing (akira was much better subtitled) and exaggerated expressions of the characters

just not my style really.

Princess Mononoke is pehaps the best animated film of any type I have ever seen - except of course fo the kia-ora advert!

If by "a tad convoluted in the plot department" you mean "complete nonsense" then I agree with you

I bought Akira on DVD never having seen it. Watched it once, then sold it (for a profit) on ebay.

I am of the opinion that films are generally meant to have a "plot" rather than "one thing happening after another for no discernible reason". Maybe it's just me?

akira is still one of my fave's in my youth, ahum, I liked all those manga series like dragonball andall....
princess momnonoke is not bad

ghost in the shell is fantastic too

Gotta agree, Ghost In The Shell is very good. I've got Akira as well, which does rock. Also Vampire Hunter D which is pretty good.

I really want to see Project Ako again. I remember very little about it apart from it had characters called Ako, Beko and Ceko in it.

I saw "Perfect Blue" about a year ago and I thought it was a bit graphic.......well all that Japanese "idol" stuff with young female pop stars, I had to turn off when she got raped........well I think she got raped I couldn't actually watch most of it.........

Don't think it's available on DVD (in the UK, anyway), but I enjoyed Cyber City Oedo 808:

Channel 4 (I think) showed it a few years back.

Lain (series)

Neon Evangelis (series) (not seen all)

and Akira, but you had seen that one.

Thats what I can remember at the time.

Armitage 3 was really quite good. I've got a figure of Naomi. She rocks

Although kinda weird hearing Jack Bauer's voice!

Ghost In The Shell is fantastic. And for anyone who like a bit of Digital Harcore with their classic Manga, get the Sonic Subjunkies album with 12,000 RPM and Do You Even Know Who You Are? on it for well used sample from GITS and Akira.

The origional Gatchaman!!!!!!

All 105 eps.... this is the series that was slaugtered to make Battle of the Planets in the uk and G-Force in the states. The origional has a full story arc and is an adult drama with no punches pulled... all this in 1972 !!!

Akira was one of a kind - it was made as if it was a feature film rather than just a series of drawings put together. @Pads - I also seem to remember watching an Italian version of BOTP and G-Force called Ditan III - it was 1980 and I was only 10!
