Are we expected to believe NO ONE will sign SOM?!

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

A lot of good points made here.

Yeah, I guess they don't owe us anything. As much as I would love a new Sisters album, or any Sisters product (DVD, single, whatever), I do have a lot of (often grudging) respect that Von just does things his way. I mean, yeah, he has a life, his entire life is not The Sisters, and he does whatever he wants to do. Clearly he has enough $ to live on, buy cigarettes, a computer, and whatever else he gets up to.

To be honest, I have to wonder about Adam and Chris, then. I mean, the Sisters machines can't be generating that much money, who knows, maybe they're just comfortable, too. I wonder if they push Von for a deal? You never hear...though we do know Adam doesn't want to go the MP3 route (of course, we only know that through Von.)

On the other hand, again, a billion bands put out albums and tour. All the time. It's not impossible, even for the Sisters. At this point, Von is 45, he's probably not going to change rock or dominate the UK charts (forget the American charts, they're a joke). It can't be that impossible to release something, so I guess we're back to square one...getting compensated ($).

::sigh::

Best quote is sounding like 'Don't say I don't give you anything...'course, I don't' (over 10 years ago now!)

I used to feel that way - I certainly applauded his stance during the whole East West debacle, but lately I just get the impression that his heart is not in it. That's what bothers me. As I've said elsewhere, I'd be more than happy for him to shelve the Sisters if he went off and did something he actually had passion for.

If only life was that simple. :|

Would it help ease the pain if I told you that things were moving along far more swiftly than they have done hitherto?

Thought not.

Very good. The thing I'm worried about now is the live shows. I presume there will be none in the near future? Still if there is a release on the horizon I presume we'll hear about it on the offical website....?

FWIW i think the bottom line is the simple fact that the sisters are incapable of writing decent songs, if they had a set of really good songs thatn record companies would be falling over themselves to signe them and give Andrew full control.

To assume they owe you a new record is rather arrogant on your part.

Considering all the cash/time/mileage/support given by the fans in perpetuation of something that has frankly given nothing back in return for a very long time, and also considering the alledged "symbiotic relationship" - I think it's ridiculous for a 'recording artist' to accuse his audience of arrogance when gently reminded that a release of new material might be a nice idea.

What is arrogant - and faintly tragic - is when an artist holds his audience in such low regard as to take them for granted. Mentioning no names, there are similar artists (low profile, insular, recalcitrant, album every five years...) out there right now, working on new material, and at the very least keeping those persons who contribute to his pension plan informed - yes friends, his website is updated everyday during the pre-production process - and I for one will be handing over my cash for the finished album. Sure he hasnt made an album for yonks, but the repsonse is not Quixotic accusations of 'arrogance' - rather we respond with gratitude that he's actually doing the core tasks his job description details i.e. making records.

That's a bit harsh, don't you think? I think Andrew is one of the most capable there is. I agree though, they would need a smash hit to make an impact on the world once more. But then the question is, what constitutes a set of really good songs? I, for instance, think that Come together and War on Drugs could have been smashing hits. People will argue and differ. People will claim that Suzanne or Summer would make instant hits. Others will say that they all stink. Don't you think that record companies would reason pretty much along the same lines? Regardless of what kind of songs they do, some will love it, some will loathe it. I think that quite a few companies would love to make a few quick bucks on the Sisters, releasing something cheap. They're the ones that wouldn't care a second for the set of songs, but rather lean back on goff nostalgia. And there'd be companies that would focus on the songs alone, but they're the ones that would hesitate, unwilling to gamble with money on said goff nostalgia.

I'm sure everything will be allright, though. I can feel it 8)

I agree with those of you who say Von doesn't OWE us an album....

But he does owe us all a F**KING BIG APOLOGY.

For the past few years he's just been STRINGING US ALONG with vague, sexy promises of new DVDs, singles, albums, action figures etc.
it's obvious now that it was all COMPLETE B*LLOCKS.

If he don't wanna realease nuffink, that's fine, but why can't he come out and say so?
By offering only tantalising glimpses of erotic new product through the smoky haze, he's just DRAGGING OUR HEARTS AROUND.

so GROW UP, VON. you're not a 14-year old. And either get something in the shops ASAFP (There's literally NOTHING stopping him releaseing a new single, at least) or SHUT THE F*CK UP.

it's useless to be rude and impolite. we are talking about a professional band and its their business - at least for me being a fan is a hobby.

i don't care if the band is on vacation to the real world, out for hunting or rebuilding the chinese wall and due to many good reasons not willing to communicate with fans (=stakeholders of their business).

but i would consider some info on the bands involvement in the music scene from time to time as a sign of respect for their fans. its a kind of non-binding business relation (for many people a surprisingly joyful one).
