Third-parties update OS X security tools and advice

The spate of URI security vulnerabilities in Mac OS X has generated almost as many different solutions in lieu of a permanent fix from Apple.
Mac tech website Daring Fireball is the latest to describe a remedy, using RCDefaultApp to disable various protocols, whilst following current best practices such as turning off any auto-opem features in a browser or FTP client.
The various stages are described in detail at daringfireball.net.
This method is an alternative to Unsanity's Paranoid Android which has again been updated. In version 1.2 the whitelist defaults to just http, https and mailto and the application that will open any URI is displayed.
