Are we expected to believe NO ONE will sign SOM?!

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Given the amount of progress during the last eleven years it all rather
depends on what you're using as a yardstick to measure this so-called swifter progress.

And given my increasingly acerbic comments of late concerning AE, hopefully swiftly enough that
I don't have to retract too much of what I've posted before rushing down the shop. :?

Most defenitely.

You are also gifted with the ability to spell. You probably have friends too. Both of which preclude you from a career in journalism.

If only it were true that bands with good songs got signed and those without didn't. I might be able to listen to music radio a bit more often.

Record companies, like most businesses, only care about their profits. And it has been shown in the past that giving Von full control can be very, very expensive.

He may have painted himself into a corner with his demands- he can't very well back down now- but ( to murder a metaphor) it's a corner with a door to the outside world where he can go and do anything else he likes.

If he had a burning need to record an album he would. But obviously he's not that fussed.

Anyway if/when he does, I bet most of you will hate it...!

I spent today with Lucretia, long version, loud, headphones.

Throbbing basslines, backed by Herr Doktor. Sultry vocals layer upon sultry harmonius layer. Killer guitar riffs laced in amongst it all. It's like the Cistine Chapel, only instead of looking at it, I'm listening to it.

And I thought of your acerbic remarks Erudite. Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. He will never set foot in a studio again. That's a hard cold realization. And given his unmitigated talent, it's one I didn't want.

The worse part is, he can tour however much he likes or does not like. Lucretia live sucks. It's a pale shadow of a once beautiful woman, lost, ravaged over time. Let's face it, live gigs will never compare to the magnificence of a studio produced Sisters masterpeice.

Alternatively -

Try thinking of it as a love affair that has gone horribly wrong.
Yes, it's easy to dwell on the the pain, the gut wrenching sense of betrayal. The violation of all that you once held sacred (okay, over-egging the pudding a bit here)!
But it also helps to remember the good times. When it was new, special and exciting. Those moments that taught you more about yourself than you might ever have realised on your own.

Or...

Just say f*ck it!

I think calling Von a Bastard says it all Erudite.

Short, now bald...bastard. Yet when I look at the vids I am in love once again.

Pretty maddening I think. But, from my experience the line between love and hate is a very fine one.

As I sit at work, listening to another in a long line of Sisters boots that dominate my CD wallet, I confess to having a small glimmer, somewhere in my fevered mind, that one day, there will be a new Sisters album, at the very least of the 'new' (as in, seven, and in some cases, 11 years old) songs. He has hinted that recording HAS taken place, I have no reason not to believe at least that, so something is out there, in the ether...

I see it being released with a 'There! Now you have it!' message from Von and Co, and we'll buy it, and clamor for more the next day.

I can only hope that the inevitable second term of George the Dumb will not hinder Von and Co from ever travelling to the USA again.

I will, however, relate what Neubaten said at the show I attended...they began by stating that the tour (which recently finished) is likely the last proper 'Tour', as such productions simply don't pay. And Blixa noted the usual suspects: Ticketmaster (Satan's Company) and Clear Channel (Satan's other Company), who are a) robbing the artists and especially the fans and b) ensuring EVERY radio station in America is destroyed and sounds the same, and that they dictate the standards of all live performances in the USA.

Very depressing.

The best theory I've heard for the continuing non-appearance of that mythical new Sisters record we'd all like to see is precisely the title of this thread - that no one will sign them. In this scenario Eldritch has effectively been black-listed by record companies following that nasty and drawn-out falling out with EastWest. If He Of The Shades has a reputation as someone who won't necessarily honour his contracts, why should record companies risk aggravation and financial loss by signing him? That would explain He Who Has Slept With All The Girls In Berlin's endless bluster on this matter and his refusal to commit himself one way or the other.
BYW, is it my 30-something memory playing tricks on me, or has the 'Record News' page on the official Sisters website not changed a word in more than four years?

You're here anyway.
;)

Whilst I'm sure the band appreciates your concern and your frankly rather scary levels of devotion, The Sisters owe you nothing. To assume they owe you a new record is rather arrogant on your part.

Go outside, catch a bus into town and go to your local indie record store. Have a good look around - there are plenty of other bands around. Granted none are as good as The Sisters, but you can't have everything you want in life, can you? Life cannot be that perfect. That would just be spoiling you. Also, we all know that true nirvana can only be found in the south of Spain. And very specific parts of northern Germany. ;)

The Sisters play live and you come to watch. It is a simple, and rather perfect example of a symbiotic relationship (apart from the small fact that one half of this partnership, if it so chose, could actually exist without the other....) :von:

If you don’t want to watch then they won’t play live anymore, which let's face it leaves more time for playing in the sun.

I refer the good gentlemen and women of Heartland to the following address:

http://www.thesistersofmercy.com/gen/faqdim/faqdim.htm

And I quote:
The Sisters of Mercy also wrote:Hmm. Why don't you put out studio albums more often?

It's often imagined that we must be very miserable, skulking around without the dignity of labour, because there's no life outside the grinding humiliation of minor rock stardom. It's said that we need to spend two-enervating-years-per-album being wantonly misunderstood and abused, and even the cats are beginning to feel depressed. Judge for yourself.

We don't put studio albums out more often...

Because we don't have to. We are not like most bands, who are slaves to their accountants, their record company, their agents or the media, all of whom like to dictate the rhythms of a band's career - for their own purposes.

Because (unlike most bands) we have other things to do, which we are just as happy to do. Not just music, either. There is more to our lives than music, and we believe our music is made better because of it. You might think it wrong of us to spend so much time playing computer games, reading books without pictures, doing chemistry experiments, thinking about politics and having sex, but we like our songs to be grounded in a life of some kind.

Because (unlike most bands) we do not believe in putting out an album with only two good songs on it.
This is a good topic though - you've sparked some interesting debate.
I was enjoying that, the info and explanations etc., then I got to the last line of the sisters quote and had one of those splutter moments.
" Because (unlike most bands) we don't believe in putting out an album with only two good songs on it." Pah ! Has Eldritch actually listened to " Vision Thing ". Now I love "Floodland" AFAIC it's the tippiest, toppiest elpee ever but "Vision Thing" is all the dirivative ( American style ) soft rock bollocks you could ever not want and there's only two good songs on it but I can only think of one.

Well that's all a matter of one's own opinion on the LP though. Presumably Von was happy with it.

And besides, it's much more fun to use his own words against him. Like:
"The argument wasn't worth a six-month contractual meltdown"
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

No, it's not your memory, it's the truth. I'm no web-page wiz, but I know it takes, oh, a moment or two to write an update, even if there is no update, maybe something witty, so we don't travel to the web page, foolishly thinking there is something new. No, the only updates we get are when, surprise! It's time to sell tickets to the retirement fund tour. Do I sense real contempt on Von's part for his fans, for anyone who even might be interested in what he's doing of late?

'Ribbons' is the only good song. The rest, musically, sounds hackneyed and uninspired to me. It could be anyone.
