Butterflies already!!!!
Unlikely for us ill admit, but i would have thought it less likely that Greece would beat Portugal at home than us to beat France!
I guess supporting England demands a certain level of boundless optimism!!
Come on England!!!!

i think boundless optimism is a pre-requisite for supporting any team pads. having said that, my money's on a 2-1 win for the frenchies. both teams have their strengths and weaknesses but, for me, the key is the presence of two players in the french side (henry and zidane) who can conjure a goal out of nothing. but who knows, if our eleven all play to their potential we've every chance of nicking it...

Optimisim, hmmm, guess we are born with it in this country.
I always think we are gonna win every tournament we enter, i know there are better teams, i know we are not the best, but hell its ENGLAND!
Blind Faith i think its called, me missus reckons the frenchies will win, but i cannot be swayed, if England play - England win, I always beleive it, then the 90 minutes ends and as the song says...
".....Never stopped me dreaming.."
"I know it was then and it could be again..."
Damn, i'm all teary now, that song makes me hurt!
Update :
They have just played the 3 Lions Re-Release (the one for France 98) on VH1...god damn but it makes your heart swell!!!!
I'm off for a nerve steadier at the local....

What a match!!!
Cruel, but i think if you asked France who they wouldnt want to play in the final, it would be us, as for 90 mins we made them look fairly ordinary. Having seen the earlier match and then that performance im far more confident about the tournbament as a whole.
Still youve got to hand it to Zidane, Awsome free kick and no mistake, and a cool head for the penalty!!!
Onward and upward,
Paddy.

Watched a bit of the football last night, well start and the end, was watching a program about Johnny Morris in the middle.
Teams came on to the pitch, they rushed through the anthems without introduction, making me think they were running late. Then presenter says "we'll be back in three minutes" and they're off to the adverts.
Which is one of the reasons, I've gone off watching football. Never was a fan, but liked the internationals. Main reasons include.
1) The country acting like it's gone to war, and over use of the word 'we' when talking about a football team. 'we should have..' (You're not doing anything, you're sat on the sofa eating crisps)
2) Sponsership and endorcements, 'Official Bog Roll of Euro 2004'. Every advert with a football tye in.
3) Insults and abuse of other nations because 11 or so of their chaps might perform better in a game than 11 or so of ours.
4) Fat people (particully kids) in replica shirts.

Ive got people trying to give reasons why i should ignore the fact that my team are playing in the Eruopean Championships ? I shouldnt be saying "we" when refering to my country's football team ? All these flags are just an excuse for a negative promotion of nationalism???Ed Rhombus wrote:
