POOOOOOOOOOORTUGAL

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

if it was the other way round, i'd feel very very lucky indeed to have gotten away with that, especially given some of the other poor decisions the ref made

when you saw the reverse angle it was obvious that the 2 england players were actually climbing all over each other - they barely touched the portugal keeper  :(
that was an optical illusion, on all the other angles you could see that's not true.... well, yes they climbed upon each other, bu they both obstructed the keep, in act there also was a plain fault along the way....

I saw three angles of that incident, it was a goal. The keeper was not prevented from jumping for the ball, hence not a foul. The only contact that was mad was made when all the players were on the way down which was natural as you cant jump like that without your arms up.

Even RS knows it (though hes celebrating ;) )

Let me get this right incase im mistaken, your reffering to the dissalowed goal as being offside, or another decision in the game?

Watching the TV camera pan along the Portugese team during their national anthem I was struck by the number of players who include dunking their hair in chip fat as part of their pre-match preparation.

Any team that so obviously relied on an 18-year-old kid as England did (just look at the change after Rooney went off) don't deserve to win.

OK I'm a bit pissed off that I'm not going to win my bet now (unless someone cripples about 7 players including Ruud Van Nistleroy and Henrik Larsson), but you can't have everything.

Sorry about the bet. :(

Tell you what, we'll all pretend you've won so you can still buy all the beers on sunday. Fair enough? :P

football is like an abusive relationship: you know you ought to walk away for the sake of your sanity, your physical well-being and your finances, but even though you go through hell week-in, week-out, you can't. why? because you truly believe, delusional as it may be, that if you can carry on putting up with it, things'll get better eventually...

and that is all i have to say on the subject (until august 7th)

Please remember that it doesn't matter if your win or lose, it's how you play the game.

Who calls their son Cyrill? :urff:

Anyway, as he was born in 1959, isn't that a tentative enough reason to move this to Sisters Chat ... :innocent:

no, in my mind there was just a definite fault by terry, I was referring to soem commentators saying it was ALSO off-side....I didn't see that...

Terry seemed to pull down the goalie, but he only came down on him AFTER the ball was in the net. Sure the goalie couldn't reach it because Terry was in the way, but it's not a crime to jump for the ball, even if you get in the goalie's way. I don't think offside enters into it, because the linesman gave the goal, and the referee signalled only for a push.

That said, I don't think England did enough. We played negatively, and defended far too deep. We were lucky to lead for 80 minutes in the end, considering the number of shots Portugal had. I don't think we turned in the performances to get much further. I'm disappointed, but I think Portugal were much better to watch, and I hope they beat Holland (or Sweden) in the semis. They play quite nice football, and they took their chances. Good luck to them.
Chris

The thing is that most of the contries in this competition (not only team but also supporters) camed to Portugal thinking that all was to them. We have the case of England (i still think they played very well.. and they made fault on the Ricardo  ), of Germany, Italia and specially Spain (that was the most tasty victory of Portugal).
Ppl never believe in us (i can say not even i believe them),we lose the 1st game, everyone said poor Portugal, they don't play nothing... everyone after that, started to say that it would be so easy to win to a team that losed with Greece. The media put this country very down, other countries put this country very down (specially spain) but we are still surviving and still don't care if we win or lose, cause this Euro brought so much coulour to Portugal, so much ppl, so much fun,so much joy, that what we really wants is to be in peace with everyone and continue to party.

That is the spirit of the game, not to get so f***ed about losing. They are the ones that earn the millions and we are the ones that suffer, cry, get mad, get into fights... for nothing.

So, pls, instead of being mad, try to celebrate with me (it seems i'm the only one happy in here), and wish us good luck for the next game.

thank you
kisses to all
