Encores

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

They're bollox really, aren't they? What's the point exactly? We know you're waiting for us to clap. You know we know. We know you know we know. OK. So no-one wants to let the evening end, but we know you're gonna call time eventually and we'll have to go out and stand around in the cold, waiting for a taxi, finding a doorway to p!ss in, looking for a kebab house. So why bother? It's just mutual masturbation we could all do without. Just say "This is the last song. Make the most of it".

Mucho respecto.

Made you look ...
And you know that she's half crazy but that's why you want to be there.

Don't abuse BBCode. Posting a message in mile-high purple letters might seem amusing at the time, but isn't as readable as you like. BBCode is there to help you emphasise specific points. It's not a new artistic medium.

Oh dear. Subtle as a brick as ever. Yes, of course we all enjoy the encores, it's the whole ritual of the band going off till the crowd cheers long/ loud enough that seems so tired and contrived. Where's the spontaneity? You're expected to do at least one encore and presumably plan this into the set-list. So you haven't really given the crowd more than you intended unless you do two encores. And what if they're still cheering at the end of the second one? Do you do another? Where will it end? And what if the crowd don't cheer loud enough? Why not just stay on the stage and play all the songs anyway? You could say "This is the encore but we're not gonna play that game with you anymore." Maybe I'm thinking about this too much.

Ooops. Sorry boss. Point taken.

Can I have my rubbish back please mister?

The Knudsen thing was a reference to Alfred Andersch's Sansibar oder der Letzte Grund. One of the few books I was forced to read that I actually enjoyed. :notworthy:

The experts thing was a reference to the hidden users who seem to be growing in numbers. All a bit early 80's Phono, standing in the corner silently judging each song the DJ plays and the prancers on the dancefloor.

I need a hobby. Maybe I should start collecting Pokemon cards.

"Maybe I'm thinking about this too much"

yes, but i tend to agree with you. ;)

when you're stood there in thr crowd, waiting and knowing full well the band are about to come back on because they haven't switched off the kit yet (all the little LEDs are still winking away in their racks at the back of the stage) and the roadies havent bothered coming one to dismantle the guitars etc, it all seems a little pointless and predictable.

by all means go off stage and have a p*ss, a quick towel-down, and a cold drink, but be honest about it and tell them you'll be back in a minute when you've performed your ablutions

the next encore i witness i'm sorely tempted to shout "good pi$$, was it?" when they come back on ;) :inncoent:

I'm sure I have an Iron Maiden tape somewhere (possibly Donnington 1988?) where Brucie says something like "We're just going to pretend we're leaving. We'll be back in a couple of minutes to play some more songs..."

Saw it with Ian Dury And The Blockheads at the Phillipshalle in 78.

"We've ran out of songs to play!". (S&D&R&R had been played thrice).

Put the houselights up and then start throwing one inch badges into the crowd (Sex &, Drugs &, Rock &, Roll) coloured like smarties from buckets the band members were carrying. Catch, leap, scrabble around on the floor, do swappies with germans, until you get the complete set. :D

Whilst Davey Payne wails away on his sax. Nice. :von:

When all things considered, probably the best gig of my life. We met them afterwards (we were stranded) and went back to the aftershow party. I slept on Chaz Jankel's hotel room floor. :notworthy:

And had a very drunken chat with Lemmy :notworthy: and Kelly(?) from Girls School ... :?:

Oh to be young again .... 8)

Now there was a Diamond Geezer if ever there was one. Saw him/ them in Bristol circa 81/ 82. Top gig except it was in some theatre or cinema and the seats got in the way. Chaz Jankel's hotel room floor eh? Now if I'd know about that, I wouldn't have felt so guilty about not giving you a bed.
