So who actually played on Floodland, anyway?

I had always assumed (at least, after finding out Ms. Morrison had nothing to do with the album...) that the lineup, if you could call it that, was as follows:

Jim Steinman/New York Choral Society- the obvious bits
Sax player on Dominion- sax solo on Dominion
Von- Everything else

But I could be wrong. Just curious...

he's played in shed-loads of records, but from what i gather he is/was steinman's regular hired-hand (on heart) for anything jim was involved in.

That probably explains the whammy bar bits in This Corrosion. They always struck me as being more Meatloaf than Eldritch. (Well, until Mr. Whammy came on board) I could see one of Steinman's cronies being responsible for that.

I've long suspected the bass is the Doktor throughout; it doesn't quite sound like the real thing, even played with a pick and loaded down with effects...

yep, i'm with you on the bass suggestion too.

i think some of it might be von, as are some of the guitar parts, but i reckon a lot of it was the doktor. the chug-chug-chug-chug bassline on dominion is way too robotic to be patty or anyone else human.

I'd say it's safe to assume the by Von filling the role it can be assumed he pressed the right buttons on the right box.

Must admit, I always thought it was synth, too.
Although, unless I'm being particularly obtuse this morning, Bux seems to suggest that some parts were played by Tony James (remember the Judas Leaves The Sisters t-shirt?).

CHAPTER 1 - The way we were...

It was as far back as 1987 when we were at our lowest ebb...

We had spent nearly a year playing around making the second album "Dress for Excess".. had put an ironic single out called "Success", produced by Stock Aitken and Waterman which was a big mistake when I look back... it was meant to be a hard electro disco and we ended up with Kylie's old knickers... AAgh, and the video was terrible... and I have to accept full responsibility, it was my idea we could spend a week by the sea poncing about... what happened to that futuristic group that would only be filmed at night?... the new sex pistols from a futureworld?... this sci-fi sex gang... we looked like a bunch of hooligans on a package holiday...

The only other old friend I can think of who might later have beeen referred to as Judas is Craig Adams - but I think that even more unlikely,
though it certainly fits with being unable to be credited for legal reasons.

Assuming any of the bass strings on the album were plucked by human hands.

The story I've heard goes that it was recorded pretty much as a live take, with dry ice and dusky lighting, as to create the right ambiance. And as far as I know the story never mentions any live musicians, just Andy alone onstage. But I could be wrong.

By the way, the sax bit on Sandstorm must be a synth as well. Can't tell wether it is on Dominion as well, but that is one brilliant sax solo.
