ok, so this is the slightly happy today s**t faced review...

overall great to see them, will definitely see them again.

The intro was too long and the order of songs a bit weird..
as in huge death metal zoon stuff followed by the slower stuff in a kinda strangely paced way ,
Dawnrazor was too early in the set and the guys around carl were a bit too panto pretending,
Carl's voice is excellent and he hasn't aged a day (although he is Mel Gibson).
I loved the gig but the tightrope between nostalgia act and
current real live active band that writes and breathes new material and one that plays to old goths while the babysitter is in, is a bit of a connundrum.
Last Exit For The Lost was f**king Fantastic.
Its been a while and the expectations were huge but it also seemed a little short.
They need to tour and get a bit mean and dirty.The gulf between knowing how to play the songs and "Believing" in them is apparent.
The Mourning Son and Zoon stuff sounded great tho. They just need to go and breathe a bit......
oh and loose the stupid contact lenses and the unnecessary projections of the album covers.
Satisfied for now but wanting More

Very mixed emotions over this gig.

And basically, most of them were bad. I suppose I was really hoping that any past demons would be exorcised, and my memories from late 1993 at Potsdam, Frankfurt and Koln could be locked away forever.

Unfortunately (although having seen them a few times since then) my door of memories was severely kicked open, and Carls new bands of merry session musicians basically demolished any pleasant memories I had hidden away, way back from the time of perfection (circa 1990-1991)

Screaming metal riffs, very poorly executed harmonies, and I used the term very loosely. I could only stand there and think how sorry I felt for people that had never experienced the band first time around, as we were faced with poor metal covers that, of one time, songs that lifted my spirits to another plane.

On the way out, and I was very close to leaving after the first set, I bumped into Danny (Voices of Masada), whose agreement that nothing from Elysium was played (and I thank god for that now) mainly due to the band not basically being upto it.

I take my exit, along with my past memories, and notch it up as another dissappointment of a band that have had their time and should never of come back. Well, either that, or just stick to material after 1991.

I loved it!

Carl's voice was spot on, he was on top form. The fact that the band was obviously more geared up for playing Zoon/Mourning Sun era music was apparent, but I expected it.

The new stuff was excecuted very nicely, I could have handled a bit more old stuff, but I heard some favourates.

Worth every penny, ever hour of waiting, the entire re-surfacing of Cal McCoy was justified by the performance of this song. It was an EXPERIENCE.

The Watchman was also very well done. As was Moonchild, as was...well. It was just cool. I would have replaced one of the Zoon tracks with Preacher Man or Power, but such is life.

Glad I went, will proudly wear the shirt.

For those of you that don't already know, the concert was filmed and will be released on DVD in the coming months.

Well, according to you previous post, you had been drinking since 3pm. Carl could have got away with anything in your opinion!

Glad you enjoyed, but I think I'll stick to NFD/Last Rites from now on

It was great, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than any SISTERS gigs I've been to, I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but I thoroughly enjoyed my self , met faces old & new, drank loads and hed a great laugh

Totally agree DJ Nephilimbabe they were a pisspoor tribute band that overdid the metal element.
Perhaps people that didn't see them in their glory days may have thought it was a half decent gig but for us old bastards that remember just how brilliant and magic a McCoy/Wright/Wright/Yates/Pettit gig was, last night was an unspeakable abomination and a stain on the reputation of the greatest band to ever walk the earth.

I totally agree Wild Bill, it never was going to be The Nephilim of 86-91, it's like going to see The Sisters or The Mish today, it's never going to be the same, I went expecting a pish poor gig, I didn't see One, we all know McCoy's an egotistical wee knob, that's why they split up in the First place, those who went last expecting to see a gig from the For Her Light tour always were on a hiding to nothing, I had a great night

Pish, I've seen four different Sisters lineups and they were all great. This doesn't apply to every band I've seen four lineups of The Mish, two were good, two were s**t and I'm never seeing them again.

Have to second that motion - not classic FOTN but a bloody good gig all the same. And as much as it pains me to admit it, far better than any of the Sisters gigs I've been to recently. At least McCoy still has a voice and doesn't dress like some aging acid casualty (who got up in the dark).

Must say I gave up going to Sisters gigs years ago and,even the new Neph were far better than anything Eldritch has served us up for many a year.
But having seen the New Neph and the new Mishun within six days of each other I have to say I'll take the Mish anyday.
Obviously the current line-up in no way competes with the Hinkler/Adams/Brown/Hussey line up,but they do sound like a band and make an accepable effort to sound like The Mish.
I'm not a big fan of the new Mish stuff but live it does come over as The Mishun and not a poor copy, and when they play the older stuff the effort is there and never sounds laboured and only played to placate the moaning old gits like me.
Both McCoy and Eldritch could well do with taking a leaf out of Hussey's book and give us,the paying fans what we want and not what they think we should want.We pay to be entertained not educated.

Depends on who you want to listen to. I saw a good gig (and the Dawnrazor do pre and post gig was even better!)...
