Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Thanks but that's not the effect I'm trying to achieve. Imagine opening the window in the first picture and seeing the second picture through that window. That's what I'm after.
Pista wrote:Have you tried switching the layers?
If you lay the stencil image on top of the "reveal" image, you should be able to move the "reveal" into position & tweak the size if you need to.
nothing happens when I try that but I may be doing it wrong as I only Nownloaded GIMP yesterday specifically to do this and there were a few things that I couldn't get to work to begin with. Is it a straight copy and paste or is there another way to do it? Do I need to turn the reveal image into a layer too? I can't seem to do that the same way as I did with the stencil because I'm not outlining and cutting it first so some of the layering functions aren't available. I'm probably doing something dumb because I'm a novice.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.
2 layers and the character you select is faded on the area of the window
like that toon on the upper part in video
edit: opacity property on layer panel

No, sorry, that's not it either (but thanks for trying to help).
I know it would be easier for you to understand what I'm trying to do if I posted the stencil to let you see it but I'm trying to hold it back until I'm ready to reveal the entire cover. I'll try and explain it more clearly instead.
Imagine you have a picture of a house with four windows. Through each of those windows you can see parts of a desert landscape. It's like you've taken the house picture, cut out the four windows with scissors and then put the house picture on top of the desert picture so that you only see parts of the desert through the holes you cut.
That's nothing like my cover but it's the same effect.

The desert is your background image
and the house with the four windows is the front layer
do to the house windows what this fellow do to the girl's background before put her to gym picture (gym picture is the desert one)

That's the exact opposite of what I want to do. I want to keep the girl's bedroom (or whatever it is) with an outline of her in it but instead of seeing the girl inside that outline you'd see the gym.
But that video did show me a quicker way of creating the stencil and of resizing pictures so it was still useful. Thanks.

Finally worked it out. Pista was spot on but I wasn't familiar enough with the program to know how to do what he suggested. A bit of experimentation got me there in the end and the image is looking pretty good. Still need to add text etc but should be able to reveal the cover fairly soon and announce publication details. May delay it slightly until we work out some new publicity photos and a revamp of the websites.

My play Death Us Do Part will be published for Kindle and in paperback on 7th February. I'll post Amazon links nearer the time but here's the cover (front and back).
In the run-up to publication, on 5th & 6th February, the Kindle edition of The Ultimate Dreamer will be available to download free from Amazon.

Death Us Do Part was published today and is available worldwide in paperback and for Kindle from Amazon as well as in paperback from Createspace. Links for every country I have links for below. If your country's not listed it's probably not available there. Sorry but I have no control over that.
Please share this with everyone you can, especially theatre companies who might be interested in performing it. If you buy then I hope you enjoy it and please consider posting a review on Amazon and anywhere else you can (eg GoodReads, your blog etc). Thanks.

There's a brand new spooky Christmas short story available to download free on my website. It's called Man of Snow and definitely won't give you a happy Christmas. It's available for all eReaders, and for those who don't have one, there are links to a number of free eBook previewers you can download to your laptop, PC etc, or you can download the eBook as a pdf.
My website also has an Advent calendar, behind which lurks the cover of my soon-to-be-published new novel, The Light Beneath the Waves. The first person to correctly guess what the picture is of will win a signed copy of the book.
Talking of free short stories, I see that I omitted to post here a few months ago when I released The Sixth Richard Stilman, the first of the Leo Self Mysteries. This is also available to download free from my website.
So that's a free scary story, a free detective story and a chance to win a free novel. Don't say I'm not good to you.

If you want to change your answer and copy fiendy's, you could just guess again instead of pretending that's what you said in the first place.
I don't pretend Stuart here is the proof
i just agree and happen to answer the same thing as mark
Big minds thinks the same at the same time, sometimes using other words but the proof of my words are at any lexicon you pick at your hands, if you don't trust that dictionary just use one other of your own like
