KICKLINE, ARE WE GOING TO BE BAD?, BETTER REPTILE

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Chris twittered:
Someone on the Sisters forum commented on this saying nobody said that. They have. I’ve read it.
Fair enough, and thank you for replying. Good luck with whatever you do.

Now, roll on Berlin tonight :D

As it was discussed here quite recently, it seems quite a few people think it likely.

Why wouldn't it be?

After all, he hasn't released a single song under the SoM moniker or his own name since 1997, and not in physical format since 1993, and it would hardly be the first time an artist has underestimated the complexities of getting out of a contract.

Look.at some of the recent tweets from Mr Catalyst.

Look at the ancient plans to release Summer and a live DVD.

Ask yourself has anyone else, ever, been subject to such a draconian contract?

Just a fairy story that has taken on a life of it's own.

Fact is that all songs played since UTG was released
(come, WoD, Romeo, Susanna, Will I dream?, c&b, Summer, Slept, Arms, Better Repitle, Kickline [played without lyrics], Show, Still, New Instrumental, and Top Nite out) could fill current setlist in <78%.
Fact is that only AE knows the truth.
And ought to move along, becasue this not gonna change a thing.

IIRC, he has said openly in a few interviews in recent years (well, last 7 years or so) that they do not need to release anything, because they (he at least, my remark) can live off touring and the fans turn up anyway and increasingly share live recordings among themselves. Which is of course totally correct.

Actually, the fans turn up in even bigger numbers since they started touring in September instead of spring, and increased the nostalgia ratio in the setlist.

Whatever the reasons behind the recent energy burst - money or general necessity it isn't.

So, not to sound ungrateful, but does anyone think we'll get the remaining teased song on this tour - Just Aching - or have we had our lot?

(Show me is a great song. Weeks later, I'm still playing it daily from the NME show on youtube. It's a keeper)

I'd like to think they would keep the trajectory upwards and give another one a go somewhere.

That song is a total earworm. I cannot get it out of my head. It’s irritating - or would be if it weren't such a good song.

I have seen those.

I'm very familiar with those plans as well.

Quite a few artists have been unable to release materials for periods of many years as a consequence of not wanting to work with their record companies/labels, it's not that uncommon. Prince is just one example.

But the point is rather that AE may still be under contract, or facing the consequences stemming from the breach of one, perhaps (as recently discussed here on HL) in a way that was unexpected to him, as he was under the impression that he wasn't (and had trumpeted that as a fact).

Perhaps. I'm not convinced, and I don't think you're not presenting any evidence to credibly refute the theory. After all, artists have been known to be both self-destructive, proud and pigheaded before (which is quite like how some would describe Herr Von).

Just remembered that, since a person's replies to other people aren't visible without logging in to twitter yourself, those of you without accounts would've missed a few bits. Including:

Glad to hear this. The current shows look ace online, (and Dylan is a natural performer) but you've served your time and are also ace. Frankly, I'd love to see you AND Dylan on stage with Ben and Mr E.
I always thought I would rather play bass for the band anyway.

I asked Chris directly on Twitter, and again, no direct answer as to whether AE is still bound by a contract:

"That would be a question for Andrew. He (rightly) makes a big deal out of being able to what he wants, though."

That's probably the sort of question he can't really answer directly though innit?

Granted, but if AE/SoM being bound to a contract isn't in fact the case, it would be easy to dispel the notion without intruding on anyone's privacy or having to consider any legal ramifications.

Which is kind of my point.

Again – it wouldn't be the first time an artist has underestimated a record company's or publisher's willingness to enforce a contract, or force an artist to remain bound by one.

Apologies for an NME (spit) link, but if Metallica can't do it, what hope for the Sisters?

Signals we, also i, have heard are positive regarding recording. I understand that there is a fair chance, and no contractual obstacles completely out of the bands influence. The outcome? Who knows.

I would not be surprised in case of a release in foreseeable time. May the force be with them.

Just putting the Ozzie interviews here.
Andrew wrote:We recently got a new guitar player in the band – an Australian named Dylan. He lives quite close to where I live with my girlfriend in Belgium, and the very fact that we can be in the same room together has suddenly generated a massive amount of new material.
Ben wrote:We have been writing new material and in fact, in the last six weeks we have been incredibly prolific in coming up with some really great song ideas, some of which we are playing on the tour.
Andrew wrote:Right now we have 16 songs in the pipeline on top of those newer ones we play live. We get to spend a lot of time together on the tour bus too and we are banging out stuff. It’s very exciting, I have to say!
Ben wrote:Andrew summed it up quite well, he stood back and goes “these new songs we’ve done, is as if it’s the sensibilities of the first record, with the energy of the third record, and some of the cinematic qualities of the middle record, whilst sounding like a new band. These songs have been largely written by myself and Dylan who is a couple of decades younger than Andrew.
They just started writing because Dylan showed up? I'll be.

In the morning Mike respects

BABES

Mary says "I hope you choke on a crust of bread."
Denice says "Are we going to be bad?"
Official Sisters site

The song name is an anecdote Mike shared with :von:.

Could it be simple as that; while bromancing with Dylan, :von: reached out to his drawer and pulled out a line, originally contributed by Mike?

In that case, took him 20 years, but he wrote a song out of it!

Andrew was re-energised as a touring/performing musician when Chris then Ben joined. he has shown in the past that he can be encouraged out of hiis curmudgeonly rut of the moment. and i stand by what ive always said- he will not record if he feels his voice is sub-par. at the minute its really not. its very strong in fact, i just listened to the 2nd roundhouse from 2017 and it was terrribly weak compared to now.

dont get me wrong -i'm not going to hold my breath but hope springs eternal. :bat:
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

Agree that's it's better now, but still... listening to the Gothenburg 2019 show, and while the show is generally good, the vocals aren't exactly the strong point... there's an awful amount of yelping going on in FALAA, and elsewhere he just lets the other guys sing most of the parts, while he's snarling and grunting in the background.

It does seem like he's lost that deep voice forever. I wouldn't mind him using his VT style more, but even that seems beyond him these days.

It's not mine to share, unfortunately – I'm sure it'll be up there soon though.
