That's a very interesting point to speculate on, Mark. After all he, won the court case and had proved his point. In a sense, Eldritch was ultimately as dishonest as Hussey & Co. by going back to the TSOM name as both parties had pledged not to do this.
There's also the question of what would have happened if both parties had kept their word? Maybe the Hussey camp would have become The m*****n straight away. As for Eldritch, would he have returned in a band with a completely different name? As a solo artist? We'll probably never know.
As I recall, the row wasn't about the "The Sisters Of Mercy" name. It was the use of "The Sisterhood" as Wayne & co were playing under that moniker to begin with & Von wasn't happy about it.
I might be wrong, but I think The Sisters Of Mercy was already registered as a company in Von's name, so that was never really in any danger.

There must have been some kind of legal proceedings since, as far as I can recall, Eldritch won a certain amount in damages from the Hussey camp. Damned if I can remember how much it was. It's not as though Eldritch gloated about it or anything like that.

On those picture disc interviews around the time of Floodland, I think Eldritch said they tried to become The Sisters of Mercy, and then The Sisters. Eldritch was able to stop them doing that. But he couldn't stop them becoming The Sisterhood in the same way. The only way to do it was to become The Sisterhood before they did, which is what he did by rush-releasing the Giving Ground single.

The 25K wasn't damages from a court case, it was the record company advance for the first version of The Sisterhood to release a record.

Based on his belief that he can re-release it, do you think that advance was ever recouped?

actually i think it was the advance publishing rights to the next album by "the sisters of mercy" which went to the first fragment of the now-split band to claim the name (or similar).

Cadiz music June newsletter says this about the Gift reissue:
I quote:
"Where working on it....we really are.. trust us..."
where?
Von will be pleased with their handling of typos.

Is that a direct quote including the number of dots in each ellipsis? Oh....dear..
Surely one should use the… unicode character?

I recall
advising in an Edition of Underneath the Rock, that "First and Last and Always" had just recouped its costs quite recently and that "Floodland" had recouped just the year before and so he was expecting the same of Vision Thing. But i'm sure that Publishing is a completely different Beast to that of Production Costs

I just found out about James Ray. I don't know what's the consensus about this, but he played on Floodland, right? I think the guitars on his own projects have a very similar sound.

he posed as a band member on a few tv appearances but he didnt play on Floodland. Patsy didnt either. Unless credited it is safe to assume that Andrew played most of it. Eldo is no slouch when it comees to the guitar and was even reckoned by Mark - Gary Marx - to be probably the mosrt competent player in the first band line-up.
james Ray by his own admission didnt even do all the vocals on Gift; only giving Ground. i dont know if he even plays guitar. ask
Scardy -he was in Gangwar

I thought Lucas Fox did the vocals for Giving Ground

Yes I vaguely remember that Eric (James Ray) denied doing Gift vocals when he was interviewed by us on here?

Far as I know, the Gift vocal credits look something like this.
Jihad: Patricia Morrison.
Colours: Lucas Fox.
Giving Ground: James Ray.
Finland Red/Egypt White: Lucas Fox.
Rain From Heaven: Various, but mostly Lucas Fox.
Jihad may or may not have others; for the most part it does just sound like Patricia with various delays and effects though.

That jibes with my memory. And I always assumed someone helped out on the "Ji-had!" in Jihad...

I'm sure I've read something in recent years suggesting that the '2, 5, 0, 0, 0' in Jihad could be Alan Vega.

I have no doubt that that was Patricia. Alan Vega acted as a spiritual support in the Sisterhood project, rather, I think

Is this still happening?
I assume it will just be the original Gift re-released (vinyl, CD), no extras...a gift by virtue of it being out of print in hard media and of course a vinyl release being a big deal this century. I can't imagine what "extras" would even exist.

This is probably what will end up happening, but there is the Norman Cook remix of Finland Red sitting about somewhere....so you never know.....It would be nice to have some proper unheard extras.
