I have just bought and, of course read the "None More Black" article in this months "Classic Rock" magazine - and as far as the general, record buying public are concerned (or so it would appear) the "Sisters" are "GOTH!" - dont shout at Moi - its Societies Fault! - MuHa!

The sisters are Andrew and STOP ! :x
To define them goth, dark, etc...etc... is a big mistake because it's to delimit them and specially the Andrew's soul.

Bye !

I never said I was ANTI Eldritch  (*hides behind monitor - until first battalion are exhausted*)

I was talking about the badly written and badly opinioned "None More Black" - it reads like like an A level essay! :|

Eldritch can be a B*****D - by his own admission - but thats why we all love him right ! :D

He has always admitted that he's not a goth;

I mean would a goth band hire an overqualified metronome instead of a real drummer?

I seem to remember him wearing a white suit to do 'This Corrission' on TOTP to prove he wasn't a goth as well (it went well with her wedding dress, the swordstick, the black nails, the shades etc etc)

I'ts also coincidence that he came from Leeds and (happened to spend the period from when punk collapsed, to the time the new romantics realised what they were doing) writing angsty songs with romantic overtones in an

N0, he's just another wanabe that just happens to be perpetually surrounded in fog and ocassionally sings exsistental songs to enough goths to fill one of them fields people kick pig bladders on.

goth is something different every week.

this week i think goth is wearing orange legwarmers and listening to skinny puppy.

next week has green eyeshadow and listening to voltaire pencilled in....

sisters are goth when it suits them

I think the Sisters are not goth although some of their song could be defined so. And I read a Von's interview where he said that "maybe in the past" some songs had a goth-inspiration. In my opinion, "Burn" is so for example.
Some friends of mine think that "Vision Thing" is the beginning of the worst Sisters. For me it is slightely the opposite. They're the best rock band I have ever seen in my life.

> I think you will find that the white suit (and tidy beard) was for "Dominion" not "This Corrosion". I thought (and still do!) that VON looked great in a white suit! :D

You expected me to remember that far back in detail? :?
Whatever they ( :notworthy: ) consider themselves they still have to look at hundreds of goths most gigs (although I've managed to persuade a couple of distinctly non-goth types (actually an indie-kid & a funk-meister) to go to every Sisters gig within a hundred miles and they seem to love it!

Long Live Gothic-Rock (or something)

I dont expect anything of anyone ;-) (only joking)

I am unfortunate (;-)) enough to have a very good memory (and also to an "sisters" obsessive! :-)

As for looking "at hundreds of G***'S" that would explain the Smoke and Shades (perhaps!)

Listen, I have an idea. I don't know that there is a poll facility on this esteemed forum, but it's fairly easy to construct one. I shall do as follows: post a message saying the Sisters are goths, and Von is in denial. If you agree, reply to it. DON'T otherwise. I shall also post a message saying the Sisters are a fine rock band, not sad goths. If you agree, reply to it, if you disagree, DON'T. Then we can simply count the posts, no?

Brilliant! Or quite simple. Or both. Who knows.

Andrew is totally right when he says the Sisters are not a goth band.Put his stark baritone and image aside and concetrate just on the music itself and you can hear lots of psychedelic-punk(The Stooges for instance),glam(Gary Glitter and T-Rex for example),hard'n'heavy(Motorhead) and electronic(Suicide) influences among few others in it.Pure rock'n'roll.I would site them more dark than goth because between dark and goth there's some certain kind of difference.

I was in an "Electro-Industrial / EBM / Future Pop" party last night. Danced and met many nice people. Noticed that finally there's gothic subculture in Estonia. Although some young goths (Russians and Estonians) were very friendly I still spent more time with DM fans. Maybe I have more to talk with people of my age.
Well, but what I wanted to say - one Sisters song - Temple Of Love (touched by the hand of Ofra Haza) - was also played and then I realized (in a way I can't formulate) big difference between this song and those people with black'n'white faces...

This one is just going to run and run.
At the end of the day, whether he chooses to acknowledge it or not, Eldritch has certainly made use of some very Gothic imagery in the past. The band also used to have a very large Goth following. I honestly don't know if that makes them a Goth band or not. Frankly, I don't really care. I'm far more inclined to get bent out of shape or upset about the lack of recorded material for the last decade.
Eldritch once stated that successful bands issue records, not writs.
Need I say more?

Another comment from the "not a goth band" went like this:-

There are three good bands in the world, us, the Birthday Party and Motorhead, we are better then the BP, but not as good as Motorhead"

Neither of three Bands mentioned are "goth" in the Specimen/ASF/Virgin Prunes sense of the word, for me, that sorts that out.
As for the other thing, two of three artists he mentioned are still releasing work after 25 years, albeit under different names at times....
Go Figure....
Me, I would not mind if Von did a Cave and recorded under his own name, after all - what is it we want?
A "Sisters of Mercy" album, like the crap that EW did not release..ssv...
or...
Words by Eldritch, Music by Eldritch, for gawds sake the Reptile House was a solo project and that is AWSOME.
Mind you, most people my missus is one of em' reckon the sisters are a bunch of Coffin Grabbin Goths...what does she know? she likes Hanoi F***** Rocks!!!

Sermon Over.

Adios. :von: :von:
