I recently finished reading "My Name is Red" by Orhan Pamuk, an unusual and magnificent murder mystery set amongst the iluminators of Istanbul in the closing years of the 16th century. Highly recommended.

Next up is a re-read of "Q" by Luther Blissett (a pseudonym for a collective of writers based in Italy), a complex novel set in the civil war and religious upheaval of the early 16th century - it's a damn fine novel and I can't recommend it highly enough.

@ lazarus corporation - My Name Is Red was the first Pamuk book i read and i loved it. i've read pretty much all of his work since (including the stuff not yet translated in English) and it remains one of my faves.

currently halfway through this baby...

I and another 3-4 chefs met Tony Bourdain at a book signing in Glasgow a few years back--it was kinda strange cos he knew who were the chefs in the crowd and who were just fans of Kitchen Confidential, guess it was the pale under nourished look all the chefs were sporting :lol:

I knew the chef at the hotel he was staying at in Glasgow,and he told me that Tony Bourdain ate his meals whilst staying at the hotel,in the kitchen with all the chefs working away--rock and roll!!
