It is a tad warm innit?
But apparently this weekend in the UK is going to be pretty hot too

The weather forecasts I've been looking at are saying 20-24 degrees, that's manageable. Here it's all 29-31 ;)
I'm just concerned my hayfever will be just as bad over there as it is here :(

Just home from overseas, what's the first thing you do? Of course, put the kettle on - we've not had a proper cuppa in over a week. So when I turn the tap off after filling the kettle, I hear a strange "clunk" followed by a noise suspiciously similar to a waterfall. Bugger.

Fortunately the "waterfall" is through an overflow pipe outside the house, so no damage has been done, and it will save me a job of watering the garden later  I have turned off the water supply into the house, so the overflow is no longer doing its Old Faithful impersonation, but that means we have no water for the moment...

I've found the problem, and it looks like a ball cock has broken on the header tank for the hot water supply - to be precise the bit that the float pushes into the valve to shut it off looks as though it has snapped. I can easily replace the ball cock myself - and it only costs about a fiver for the whole valve assembly - but the decision is whether to bother driving to B&Q after getting up before 6am for the flight home this morning?

If you want a brew in the morning, then a swift trip to B&Q is certainly worth it.

or bother the neighbours for a kettleful.

Compromise: I've drained the hot water system via turning the hot taps on, then turning the stopcock back on allows enough water into the house to fill the kettle, flush the loo, etc, then turn the stopcock back off when the overflow starts up again. It's a bit of a hassle but it will do until tomorrow.

Very impressed with your knowledge and logic on this, @Mark. A new career beckons ?

I think I inherited the practical side from my dad. And because I was interested whenever he did that kind of job, he taught me to do them. I learned a lot from him.

Which takes me back round to being pissed off, because it reminds me how much I miss him.

On the other hand, do you not feel sometimes that he's looking over your shoulder while you do those things that he taught you? And that you do them right because that's what he taught you to do? And that doing them right makes you feel that he'd be a bit proud of the man you turned into?

It doesn't take away the missing him part, but for me at least it makes it feel like he's still there.

Great job, markfiend! ...

It takes a hero to tackle such stuff (and the inevitably rising panic and hystery) effectively

when you've just returned from travels ... ;D ... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: ...

 I don't really think I deserve to be called a hero!

Cpob by a long distance moving company that was supposed to have our stuff moved from Texas to DC yesterday... and currently say they have no idea when it will be here. Wankers.

Fridge just died.
I guess 12 years is a good innings for a fridge, but even so. All my beer is now warm

Ordered chest of drawers for bedroom on internet. Delivery was scheduled for last Saturday, waited in all afternoon, it never turned up. After much investigation between suppliers and their couriers it seemed it was swallowed up by a black hole in their warehouse as there seems to be no trace of it on this planet. So I cancelled the order. They now keep emailing me asking me to review my purchase so I will write a review saying it looked nice in the picture on their website but it seems it's actually invisible so unsuitable for the purpose for which it was advertised.

Ordered a similar chest of drawers from another company. This arrived on Wednesday - broken, so I am now trying to arrange for it to be replaced.

Jeebuz Squeakymouse.
Have you walked under a ladder recently or something?

New fridge has just been delivered...YAY!.
Can't turn it on for four hours though...BOOO!

Had to buy some bags of ice (not easy to do in a town where it's 40 celcius) to get the beer cool.
Ice cream is just sludge now though :(

you get to buy more, though, and it will have to be more upmarket stuff to match the new fridge. :D

Fucking this. What sort of fucked-up mother-fucking fuck-weasel of an ideology looks at an 82-year old academic and considers him a threat to its world view. He was a fucking scholar, for fuck's sake! In what fucked-up view of Islam is beheading fucking men of learning condoned?! Never hear of fucking Avicenna? What, you'd go round and decapitate him, would you? You probably would, having seen the kinds of fucked-up shit you've been pulling.

Seriously fucking pissed-off right now. I met this bloke about 10 years ago - all he cared about was looking after an important historical site. That was it. Making sure that it didn't decompose into the sand, preserving it for the next generation. And these fuckers decided that this was an activity that warranted cutting his head off and hanging his body in the town square. I mean, I get that ISIS is a bunch of fuckers who think that they can impose a state based on their own peculiarly fucked-up interpretation of Islam, but for fuck's sake.

Question is simple: what they tried to achieve by beheading old scientist? Article points on "treasures" from Palmyra, that Mr. Khaled Assad was, by his profession, about to preserver. If it's only about that then they're degenerated bastards eating pork chops. I mean, they are degenerated bastards eating pork chops anyway. They are not human, they are not even vermin's (yeah, I know what it sounds, but I just don't care). What they deserve is Tomahawk missiles for breakfast and Napalm to drink.

They are disgusting, and that's what they want to be. When see them on the telly they are just badly behaving silly boys who didn't manage puberty at all ... feeling very cool killing people and shocking "the world" like the idiot children ... complete zeroes. I wonder, how they ever learned to read, i.e., I doubt that all of them can read at all, Anyway, it is clear that what ever they might have read, they never understood a single letter of it. They are a shame and a stain on Islam. However, they won't get much further, for with all their raping and fucking they will soon go down on sexual diseases like the flies ... brainless as can be ...

Flatmate has her boyfriend over (again) and I could hear them f**king (again) and now I just heard him p*ss in the bathroom, with the door open, standing up. :urff: :urff: :urff:

Edit: I just realised that *some* of the noises I've been hearing were the dishwasher, which I've switched on myself earlier.
