THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. And what a line up that is, when compared to the Readings of the present day, where I about 3 years ago I realised I hadn't even heard of (let alone heard) the majority of the headline acts. I was about two and a half years away from hitting my gig-going stride at this point in time :cry:

25 YEARS ago The Sisters played their perfectly recorded gig at Paradiso Amsterdam ...

It is funny, though, that nothing much is known about the

Effenaar and Rotterdam ...


Oh, and many years later The Sisters played the in living room of lucky Reptile House member S. Reitz in Oberhausen and perfomed Comfortably Numb for the very first time ...

And on the 29th August in 1992, The Sisters said goodbye to Tim Bricheno, who's last gig with the band was the Pukkelpop Festival (https://sisterswiki.org/Sat,_29-Aug-1992).

6 years to the day later (that's 1998 for those of you who don't fancy the maths), The Sisters played the Summer Horizon Festival (https://sisterswiki.org/Sat,_29-Aug-1998)

A 50% success rate for the band on 30th August.

In 2000, the show at Nottingham Rock City (where they were due to be 'the biggest band' to play there since David Bowie three years previously!!) was cancelled: https://sisterswiki.org/Wed,_30-August-2000

I know loads bang on about '85 but, with nearly 30 years hindsight, I think TJ leaving had more impact - there was no glorious commercial comeback just whatever this is now.

When I wrote that it was his last show, I did think something similar. Not replacing a departing bass player suggest to me that a band is winding down. It's just taken 27 years so far...

Soundcheck Winterthur 91, Concert in an each end blocked street , I saw a camera on the roofs but the guy did not film everything because it was too dangerous .

Odeon in Münster, Germany, again during the Trans-Europe Excess Tour in 1983

Manchester Academy part of the Trip The Light Fantastic Tour in 2000 and

last year's gig no.1 at the Roundhouse in London ... 8) ...

I was surprised to find I was missing the Manchester show. If anyone can upload I'd be grateful.

The Munster show is a bit of curio ... an encore without Eldritch, no complete version from the same source in circulation (from what I could work out).

Moving on to today (2nd September), we have three gigs falling on this date:

I was at the last of those, and very good it was to, although for the first time, I felt that the degree of predictability was taking a slight toll on me. I also remembering wondering why they never start a set with Dominion, as it has been a midway through the set song at every show I've seen them play. And every time, the atmosphere goes up noticeably when the opening notes start up. Would love to see the band come on and go straight into it.

Yeah, starting with MORE, has become quite a habit. And last year in particular, the set list
consolidated into a stable, but fully working, scheme with some surprises here and there.

btw, there were four concerts on September 2nd in Sisters History, see Fri, 02-Sep-1983, the final show of the Trans-Europe Excess Tour ... :wink: ...

Thanks for the link! Too bad about the other missing TEE concerts, they are legendary, but still, there are 99% of their 80s shows (at least 83-85) recorded. So not that bad.

Oh yes, that wonderful Sisters XXX Tour ... after the festival in Stekene a heavy storm came up and I got as wet as never ever before on the way to my tent ... :lol: ...



Today in Sisters History there were two gigs:

Nottigham Rock City during the Trip The Light Fantastic Tour in 2000 and

The Sisters only ever concert in Turkey at the Rock'n Coke Festival in Istanbul 2006
