I-yi-yi, Bartoszek. Let's walk and talk, shall we?
Repeat this to yourself, over and over, if you would: "Manson is NOT G*TH"!

So that makes Buster Keaton a goth as well, then?Bartoszek wrote:...look at his pale skin, no not the make-up, look at his black hair...
f**k Manson, Captain Sabertooth is the ultimate übergoth, as evidenced in this pic:Bartoszek wrote: manson's not goth ? can't be, look at his pale skin, no not the make-up, look at his black hair, listen to his dark and gloomy music, then tell my he's not goth king
Why indeed! Lookie:Ozpat wrote:Do true goffs have a moustache?

Ladies and gentlemen, the mystery is solved! It turns out that has been masquerading as Dieter Meier from Yello all these years!:lol:Carcharoth wrote:Why indeed! Lookie:Ozpat wrote:Do true goffs have a moustache?
That explains why there's been no new Sisters albums from for the last 14 years; he's been busy recording with YelloEvilBastard wrote:Ladies and gentlemen, the mystery is solved! Dude... like... huhuhu... that is like... so profound.EvilBastard wrote:But on a serious note…
The other night I was listening to Floodland for the first time in a while, while I will admit under the influence of some of Jamaica’s finest horticulture, and it occurred to me that the Sisters are gothic in the purest sense of the word. Let me explain.
If you look at gothic architecture, you’ll notice some defining characteristics, principally that everything that goes to support the building is on the outside (flying buttresses, that sort of thing). This leaves the inside to be a high, soaring space. This is the way I hear Sisters music – the intros layer-in sound, first drums, then organ, then guitar, and it’s only when the support has been built that the voice comes in. The voice alone can’t carry it, in the way that it can with blues, for example, which only really needs a rhythm line to provide tempo.
If you take Dominion as an example – you start with a drumbeat, then the guitar comes in, then the bass line, and only when the cathedral is built does the voice kick in. The voice can only start when the guitars and drums have built a space for it to work in, without them it can’t work.
It’s all about the layering, the foundations as it were. The music works only when all the elements are acting in concert – take one away, a buttress if you like, and everything falls apart. If you close your eyes you can almost see the music building a venue for the vocals, which need a soaring empty space to achieve maximum potential.
Maybe it's time I laid off the doobage...
But FLAA and Floodland were Goth accidents waiting to happen. Maybe they were n't intended to be goth but bloody hell AE has no right too complain. Look at the imagery.Syberberg wrote:Are we still chewing over this one?
It all comes down to personal opinion and deffinition of what is "goth", I suppose. As far as I'm concerned, The Sisters most deffinately are not goth. Never have been, never will be.
Imagery ? I can't see no church or graveyard... (Yeah, I know, Damage Done. We all make mistakes.)Gollum's Cock wrote: But FLAA and Floodland were Goth accidents waiting to happen. Maybe they were n't intended to be goth but bloody hell AE has no right too complain. Look at the imagery.
That would also exclude Mish, The Cure, Nephilim etc. Which brings us back too, what is Goth music?Badlander wrote:Imagery ? I can't see no church or graveyard... (Yeah, I know, Damage Done. Gothic is architecture (and by extension, literature, but that I already find a bit far-fetched), it ain't music.
It's techno with added horror, horror.Gollum's Cock wrote:That would also exclude Mish, The Cure, Nephilim etc. Which brings us back too, what is Goth music?Badlander wrote:Imagery ? An all-encompassing term some lazy journalist came up with in the very early 80s, and which is not to be confused with the 80s underground rock scene most of us like.Which brings us back too, what is Goth music?
Probably the same pond life that came up with "Positive Punk" to initially label the same thing.Badlander wrote:An all-encompassing term some lazy journalist came up with in the very early 80s, and which is not to be confused with the 80s underground rock scene most of us like.Which brings us back too, what is Goth music?
