When I wrote a song called still (I've yet to get over that :P) it was referring to the German definition - silent. I know Von's done the bilingual pun thing before, so you never know...
Not just the German def. Mr. Motz >

still1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (stl)
adj. still·er, still·est

1. Free of sound.
2. Low in sound; hushed or subdued.

Straight up English baby... :D

Weird, I always thought it was just free of motion.

If only they taught us our native language as well as the foreign ones instead of just dissecting bloody poetry :|

Take one.

Didn't say you'd meet a [Thomas?]
You didn't say you'd want to
You didn't [love your hair against my everything?]
Like you did as a schoolgirl

Still, if it makes you happy
Still, if it makes you glad
Still, if it makes you happy
It makes me mad

Don't mean to ask of you
Why can't this be?
You cannot read my mind
One day you could be the chosen one
But I still can't [light this up?]

Still, if it makes you happy
Still, if it makes you glad
Still, if it makes you happy
It makes me mad

I was going to say I thought it sounded like "It makes me mad".

Doesn't sound like it, really. More like "you'd be a [?]", actually. We need another recording!

I´ve been listening to the song back and forth now, for more than three hours in a go.. now my brain hurts!
Here is what I came out with:

You could say "You and me together!"
You didn`t say allways wrong(?) (You give me the same all night long(?)Is wrong(?))
If I gave you ?
but what might be if you`re gone?

Still, if it makes you happy
Still, you can be too glad
Still, if it makes you happy
This wouldn`t be too bad

You don`t have to be
what you don`t want to see(you see?(?))
it can allways be(go?) wrong
one day you can be, you could be gone
And I still can`t hide the(this?) sorrow

Still, it could make us two(too?) happy
Still, it could be too great
Still, it could be too wrong
It could be so bad(?)That it makes you mad(?)

I think I got it a bit closer to the real lyrics.. a bit..
The copy of the song isn`t all that bad, just reduce the lowest and highest freqencies with your equalizers, then turn it up till, well, your brain hurts, and there you go.
;D

Sounds like another "When You Don't See Me" if you're correct, eotunun

Rather like a "we are the same Susanne", somebody trying to convince somone else to make a couple.. (Umm, What I just wrote sound extremely strange to my none-native-english-instincts in my hurting brain..

Afraid so. Now that you have a better sounding one, feel free to correct my attempt above. I'm sure the chorus is correct, but the verses need some work.

I had a great laugh while listening to the song. The music isn’t very good, and it sounds like something Von just knocked together to keep moaning fans happy, which he admits in the song with venom.
currently humming a little Carly Simon tune :innocent:

Okay, I tried it again. I took both versions I have of the song, that is the first available one and the remastered one. Now I am officialy convinced that they differ at least at the second refrain. The last but one line of the first version definately ends on an ongish sound. (sounds like blabla-ong) While mugabe got the refrains fairly right for the remastered.
Would any of you native english speakers dare to take the fool`s cap? C´mon..

I can't hear anything in the Nottingam recording, but from the Brussels recording I hear

(Did/Didn't) you say you'd make a torrent
You didn't say you always wrong
But if I gave you an explanation
Like you did as a schoolgirl

Still, if it makes you happy
Still, if it makes you glad
Still, if it makes you happy
It makes me mad

You don't ask of me
What you can't explain
You c.......... what ........ [this verse is very indistinct]
........... you could ..........
But I still can't (write this song/hide this sorrow)

Still, if it makes you happy
Still, if it makes you glad
Still, if it makes you happy
It makes me mad

-------

He doesn't mind weeding and trading...

but torrents...

...they make him mad!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

It's not that difficult to master. Forward the ports to your router Von, then you'll get that episode of Lost you've been trying to get.

A Link To Cher

before i found this thread it occurred to me that "Still" was perhaps another cover, so i searched AllMusic for song titles. there are scads. i browsed the list and found an album by Cher entitled not.com.mercial.

she has a song "Still", yes, but interestingly there's also a song on the same album entitled "The Sisters Of Mercy".

i googled the lyrics of both songs: not very interesting, and clearly Von is not using Cher's lyric. nevertheless, amusing.

Just tried to piece this together from Brussels and Austria. Not a great job, but might prove useful in conjunction with the ones above or as a starting point for someone else to have a go.

although i was at nottingham ihave only recently obtained copies of "still" (notts link remains active -thanks) and it's a great little song IMO. nice squirly riff with minor chord progression, catchy and simple chorus, and -in my mind- it will always be (as PiB john and josh first said) written for us to make us happy. and it does. :von:
