On the wire was written by Von. At least that's what I get from the 12".
And the new sound also had a lot to do with better equipment, better production, and more time in the studio. Hussey may have influenced this new sound but he definitely wasn't the only factor.

For my 2 pence worth, I like The m*****n (Sorry for swearing) & in all interviews I've seen with Wayne, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. In his interview on Lighting The Candles, he says he enjoyed his time in the Sisters. :|

Personally I think it's a shame the split happened, would have been good to squeeze a couple more albums out of that line up. As for his contribution musically, he's written some of the best Sisters tunes. :D

That isn't to say it's any better or worse than the new material, but I've been playing his tunes for the past 18 years, not bored of them yet. :)

As for his comments on Eldritch, it's great that he takes the time to comment at all, let' face it, there's nothing worse than indifference.

i never get the clue why someone has to be that negative about wayne. the m*****n are a great band with lots of fantastic songs. so are the sisters. jokes are a good thing, even if someone might not laugh about it.

it should not be the role of anyone in here to always judge between good and evel. enjoy yourselfs.

Well

If he didn't even write ToL, sod the bastard. I mean, the m*****n weren't so hot apart from "Wake", and "Deliverance", and what "great songs" did he write for the Sisters? FALAA? Yay.

tbh judging from the songwriting in recorded output FALAA is neither as good as ToL/Adrenochrome nor Gift/Floodland.

When Wayne mentions 2 ego's, than he is refering to both himself and Andrew. So all in all, he makes jokes about the Sisters but also about himself.

And bye the way, he seems to keep track of what Andrew is doing. I would be extremely surprised if Andrew knows what Wayne is doing these days .....

Honestly, I just think that both are just keeping up appearances and pretending that they still don't like eacht other so that we all on Heartland have enough to talk about :-)

I was always under the impression that it was actually Von on Temple.

Wayne is just playing games with the past and trying to provoke a reaction, same as he's been doing since 1986 and nothing more. He was only in the band for 18 months or so, wrote the music for 4 or 5 songs, and contributed to 1 or 2 others. Overall, what he gave to the band was little more than Andreas Bruhn, but what he took from them was enormous.

It's still a free world, so I suppose he's entitled to crow on his own dunghill.

Von said it best:
play with the Sisters for a year and then leave to become a full-time g-o-b-s-h-i-t-e

Who said I was being hard on poor Wayne ?

And I quite agree. :innocent:

The title track from FALAA is, of course, Gary Marx.

I would say that I like "Body and Soul", "Black Planet" and "Marian". And quite a few songs on the Mish's first album. The problem is that the dude kept ripping himself off. "Wasteland" is recycled "Marian". "Deliverance" is recycled "Wasteland" with crappy mists-of-avalon lyrics. And so on.

You shouldn't moan about it. There have been more pathetic duels like Axl Rose vs. Vince Neil in the early nineties. And I enjoyed it, by the way.

I think he did a little more than Bruhn, in the 18 months he was with the band they released 3 singles and a album, to which he wrote or contributed to all the singles and wrote half the album. That's pretty good going, and for volume of songs realeased was the most prolific period for release of Sisters material ever.

The guy gave the Sisters drive, and his song writing gave the Sisters a commercial edge (Which I imagine helped with a better record deal) without taking anything away from their uniquness.

I'm not sure what he took from them, bit of argy bargy about the band name (to which I'm completely on Vons side) :x but then we got Gift out of it :D

We're not going to solve anything here, I guess if you hate him, I'm not going to change your mind. But he made a valuable contribution to the band and he should be acknowleged for that. 8)

Why does it always have to be so black and white when it comes to Wayne ? The name is mentioned, one guys says no thank you... and then the whole discussion starts spiralling out of control.
I don't "hate" Wayne in any way. But I don't think he's the best thing that ever happened to the Girls either. And it so happens that there's only one side of the FALAA album I really love. Guess which ?

Goodness me. You people do take this all far too seriously. Wayne was hired for his experience with Dead or Alive. IMHO Eldritch needed someone with studio experience and a knack for a tune. Wayne duly delivered and did give the album more of a commercial feel. Something the record company was probably pleased with.

He wasn't the 'best' or 'worst' that happened to the band - it was something Eldritch probably felt that he needed. And considering the sales of the album and sold out tour afterwards - he was probably right.

Whatever happened after that with the Corporate Wars has been talked about here before extensively. Both sides benefitted IMHO. And everything after that is just shadow boxing in front of the cameras.

Just a bit of friendly banter between friends

There aren't many bands that have such a rich history, helps keep people talking about them. And debate is always a good thing. :D

Let's face it, if we all the same opinion........#something about being a dull world all that stuff#

Including Possession, which is a Hussey song. I also like Blood money, A rock and a hard place and Marian, but I can do without the other stuff. So I guess in terms of songwriting it's fifty-fifty.

Never saw the difference in the two sides of FALAA.... both as good as each other (though I would say that Possession is the song I'm most likely to skip); I really think it works as a whole album, with all the songs being pretty much bloody fantastic.

And Mr Hussey's guitar sound is not to be sneered at. Any boot from 85, or indeed the Wake video, is guaranteed to be utterly jawdroppingly good.

So there.

Since the split, Wayne's produced two crap albums.... and a whole lot of good ones.

I'll get my goat....

Suffice it to say that both singles were from A-side. I always thought B-side was more intense and somehow deeper.

Allow me to disagree. Too much pedals, too much chorus, too much echo, etc. And not enough aggression. I'm not so much impressed as bored. One man's coffee is another man's tea, one man's whiskey...

TOO MUCH CHORUS AND ECHO?????? THERE IS NO SUCH THING!!!!!!!!!

(and it's a useful tool to cover up a few mistakes too..... )

I'm a bit more roots than that. 8)

Just a little bit more and not in every respect.

I have nothing against pedals as such : Robert Smith's use of wah-wah (A strange day) and flanger can be quite fascinating at times. But Wayne is just so over the top sometimes, all I can hear is the freaking pedal !
BTW aren't Hussey and Smith supposed to be very good friends ?

Edit : what you do with goats is none of my concern. I'm not judging you. :P  :urff:

Hussey played with the Cure in LA back in late 1996. And Eldritch obviously hired him partly because of his guitar-playing. He currently uses Line 6 guitars.

I'm in the "not really a big fan" camp regarding Waynes '85 guitar sound. But that's all a matter of personal taste........................

Regarding his songwriting, everything on the Body & Soul 12" was a Von job, so that doesn't count.

I make his contribution to be:

Black Planet
Walk Away
No Time To Cry (co wrote)
A Rock And A Hard Place
Marian
Possession (co wrote)
Blood Money (????wrote lyrics???? credits are reversed from the norm)

That's 5 which are entirely his, out of a total of over 60, so in terms of songwriting and boiling it down to hard figures (which can always be misleading) we're talking about less than 8% of the band's output.

So my point being that he gave the band a few songs in 84/85, and yes, massively influenced their sound, then caused utter ructions in the camp, which eventually led to the split.

In his favour though, and one thing that he does deserve full credit and recognition for, is that without him we would have never had Gift or Floodland.

Coat time?

But surely, if my memory stretches back that far, Mr Hussey only left when Craig was kicked out? I don't think he was responsible for any "ructions" that I can remember...
