That was the one that did the Sisters job on me for real!!!
Thank YOU.
(PS: Anybody know how to download these?
The Dave Bowie clip is worth a watch for behind the scenes action.

Last time I watched TOTP I saw Madonna's boney ass working out to samples of an old ABBA tune, not pleasant in the sound and vision department.
When Mott The Hoople split, that was the end for me.

That's in there for life now!!!
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
I watch it with the sound off.............just watch the "Girl" bands reallyweebleswobble wrote:Sad to see it passing, but haven't watched for years...
It's the end of an institution, another part of my youth bites the dust.........I think that's the worst part, while it was on there's always the possibility that it could get better, a new producer, new ideas, now it's gone.......or as good as, that's not going to happen .
I must admit, if I was in a band I love to have my Mum and Dad watch me on TOTP's, "Mum....I'm going to be on VH1", just doesn't have the same ring to it................any else know what I mean?.........or am I talking Bollox again?
Being brave is coming home at 2am half drunk, smelling of perfume, climbing into bed, slapping the wife on the arse and saying,"right fatty, you're next!!"

I was thinking just a week or two ago, have they already axed it? I didn't realised it had been moved... but it just seems to have melted away in terms of importance in recent years.
I used to wait for thursday nights even in the early 90's when I was a lad , but I think it started it's descent not long after, in fact it had porbably already begun.
The problem is, it's become a kid's show. It's not just a matter of everyone who used to watch it becoming olde pharts and not liking newer music - that's each generation's perogative. It's that the acts they used to put on appealed and sold records to a large range of ages. In the 70's and probably even more in the 80's, you'd often have bands there that had their largest market in 20-30 somethings in addition to the pop pap.
But in the past decade, it's just become like an extension of one of these f**king hyperactive kids' Saturday morning shows , it is almost purely for children, young teenagers and the hopelessly retarded. In a way it's gone full circle, started out as a teenyboppers' programme, ended up back there.
Only difference is, it's not as exciting being a teenybopper now...

That's it in a nutshell.boudicca wrote:The problem is, it's become a kid's show.
Back in the day they (as someone mentioned) put The Exploited on (I remember that ) but now they daren't put someone like Marilyn Manson on, for fear he'll scare the kiddies.
It's all too safe, too boring, too predictable, too corporate.

I remember watching it through the nineties and seeing Babylon Zoo perform "Space Man" I got confused because they were "playing" it blindfolded, I thought they must've been great musicians!

I meant, it's not as exciting being a teenybopper now as it was back when they actually called them teenyboppers, in the 60's... when TOTP began (and it was sort of a kids show back then).

'Top Of The Pops', the long running British TV show has finally been dropped. Bauhaus played the show on three occasions. The songs featured were 'Ziggy Stardust', 'Lagartija Nick' & 'She's In Parties'.
David J writes:
As a band, we were brought up on and inspired by T.O.T.P. T Rex, Bowie, Roxy Music and some of the odd juxtapositions were great where you would have some total wimpy m.o.r. rubbish followed by a band like The Who. When we played on the show for the first time it was a real 'pinch your self' dream come true. We were also told off by the producer for breaking the rules, Peter propelling his fake microphone that ended up in the producers box then leaping into the audience at the end of our song. The second time we did it, we pulled a similar stunt again, only this time charging through the crowd, the same queeny producer was screaming the classic, "This band will never do this show again!" (we did though) but now it is really true. A great British institution, sad to see it go.
