84-85 gets my vote, as the bands golden period. Close call betwen that and 81-83.

Here's how I break it down:
From the angle of pure enjoyment, Floodland era. I'm too young (32 now, so I would have been about 13 or 14 when I was mostly unaware of any underground music) to have been a fan at the time, but I like it in retrospect. I don't think it is by any means Andrew's best stuff, but it is the one that makes me want to dance and have a good time.
From an objective angle, however, i think anything First and Last and Always and earlier is their most important work.

I've finally come up with a logical answer. Voted for 2003-current, just because it's so good to love a band who've had so many fabulous incarnations so far.

well, definitely the 84-85 area, including the alice stuff and so on. Why ? I was young and reckless at that time and i definatley made a hugh impression on me . Result : still love those songs. Anything after that not good ?

Or maybe you think there should be no distinction between the 81-83 and 84-85 eras ?
