Have you ever heard Emma by Hot Chocolate?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Cool.

Speed Kings is definitely "anyone want a weepy? oh yes" or something similar. Maybe it's been used more than once then.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

emma by hot chocolat is a fine song. i love the way a bumpy disco bass sound was used for an emotional song.
knew (and liked) it before i heard the sisters doing it. it's a pity that HC didn't put more feeling into it, as the lyrics would suggest, and sings it like a regular pop song.

just checked the lyrics by the way, searching for eldritch-esque touches to it. to my utter disappointment, they seem to be 100% similar ;D
I like these calm little moments before the storm. It reminds me of Beethoven. Can you hear it? It's like when you put your head to the grass and you can hear the growin' and you can hear the insects.

heard hc's emma years before the sisters version, and rellay loved it. still a great tune, and very nice, how different the sisters rendition turned out to be (of course, the change of the drum patterns in 84 for the body & tour was the major improovement to make it really big)
love is just a shot away

And HC's version of Emma is great :!: Heard it before The Sisters and loved it then. Everything else they ever recorded without exception is s**t.
'You Don't Remember Me Do You?' was probably what Errol Brown was thinking at the time.

I feel compelled to post a reminder of the majesty that is
We were together since we were five
She was so pretty
Emma was a star in everyone's eyes
And when she said she'd be a movie queen
Nobody laughed
A face like an angel
She could be anything

Emmaline, Emma, Emmaline
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen
Emmaline, Emma, Emmaline
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen

At seventeen we were wed
I'd work day and night
To earn our daily bread
And every day Emma would go out
Searching for that play
That never, ever came her way
You know sometimes she'd come home
So depressed
I'd hear her crying in the back room
Feel so distressed
And I'd remember back when she was five
To the words that used to make
Emmaline come alive
It was "Emmaline, Emma, Emmaline,
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen.
Emmaline, Emma, Emmaline
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen."

It was a cold and dark December night
When I opened up the bedroom door
To find her lying still and cold
Upon the bed
A love letter lying on the bedroom floor
It read "Darling I love you,
But I just can't keep on living on dreams no more.
I tried so very hard not to leave you alone.
I just can't keep on trying no more."

Emmaline - Aaah, Emmaline
Aaah - Emma, Emmaline
Aaah, Emma, Emmaline
:notworthy:
We forgive as we forget
As the day is long.

Eh. Whenever I hear him sing Jolene, he sounds just like Crazy Zed from the Police Academy movies..

If not mistaken, this is a quote from William Shakespear.

Nobody else can snarl 'Love' with such vitriol like AE. I am in awe.

No, not even Jackie White.
